Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for the implementation of construction work processes, project procedures, and instructions within assigned operations.
  • Ensure subcontractors are working with the latest issued documents and drawings.
  • Review IFC documents and resolve discrepancies, raise technical queries for clarifications on IFC deliverables in coordination with the field engineering team.
  • Coordinate with client representatives to solve any potential or actual problems across disciplines as encountered at the project site and liaise with engineering disciplines/project execution team to find alternative and corrective actions.
  • Participate in scoping sessions with subcontractors (awareness of workface planning).
  • Provide support to planning, analysis, and forecast of ongoing activities.
  • Plan for the three weeks look-ahead schedule to identify jobs that need to be completed and the resources required for timely completion.
  • Review subcontractor deliverables like fabrication/construction execution plans, procedures/method statements, and other related activities to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Monitor construction productivity and implement Project Production Control (PPC) by monitoring daily construction details and progress in assigned areas.
  • Monitor subcontractor activities to ensure compliance with specifications, safety, quality, productivity, schedule, and cost objectives. Provide solutions to subcontractor problems to achieve successful project execution.
  • Participate in daily progress meetings with subcontractor fabrication works, review daily progress, identify deviations from planned work, and inform immediate supervisors.
  • Order materials and schedule inspections as necessary throughout the process.
  • Participate in Go/No-Go meetings and ensure checklists are completed and approved prior to the start of critical activities.
  • Ensure adequate storage and preservation of structural material before and after installation. Ensure material handed over to subcontractors is controlled, preserved, and issued for the intended purpose.
  • Promote job site safety, encourage safe work practices, and rectify hazards immediately. Regularly participate in HSE meetings, toolbox talks, and daily jobsite walks, keeping meticulous records.
  • Prepare reports and forecasts relating to construction progress and manpower requirements.
  • Support QinC initiatives by ensuring subcontractors build right first time in line with latest IFC, approved ITPs, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Generate or modify Inspection Test Requests (ITRs)/check sheets for construction and ensure subcontractors maintain systematic ITR records.
  • Supervise completion of final punch lists and ensure timely closure of all punch items.
  • Provide inputs on lessons learned, constructability issues, and best practices in construction observation forms.
  • Support subcontractors in accurate quantity reporting.
  • Be aware of subcontract agreements and challenge all site instructions as necessary.
  • Assist subcontract teams with review of invoice approvals and billing in accordance with Bill of Materials (BOM) utilization.
  • Serve as a coach and mentor for site supervisors.
  • Ensure competency checks of construction supervisors and subcontractors; verify personnel qualifications, competence, and valid certifications where required.
  • Develop fabrication strategies for large steel structures such as topsides and jackets; work with subcontractors on fabrication execution plans and follow fabrication, erection sequences, and build methodologies.
  • Review and approve job and task-specific method statements and job safety analyses (JSA/JHA).
  • Prepare daily and weekly progress reports.
  • Review and participate in preparation of procedures and execution plans related to structural activities.
  • Understand approved-for-construction drawings, shop drawings, and assembly sequences.
  • Review and understand 3D models to ensure fabrication feasibility.
  • Be aware of and understand advanced work packaging.
  • Be aware of and understand project schedules and milestones.
  • Be aware of and understand mechanical completion systems and construction Inspection Test Records (ITRs).
  • Verify materials (e.g., high-grade offshore steel, corrosion-resistant alloys) according to offshore standards and ADNOC GAS standards (e.g., DNV, ISO, NORSOK).
  • Understand and be aware of welding procedure specifications (WPS) for offshore structural components and inspection test plans (ITP).
  • Supervise cutting, welding, and assembly operations in fabrication yards, ensuring adherence to project quality and safety standards.
  • Ensure all fabrication processes comply with offshore structural standards.
  • Ensure and understand structural inspections, including non-destructive testing (NDT), visual inspections, dimensional checks, and control.
  • Understand QA/QC procedures during fabrication (e.g., weld traceability, fit-up records, material certificates).
  • Be aware of and understand painting and coating specifications and their application in terms of blasting and painting.
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, piping, HVAC, architectural, and systems engineers to ensure all structural interfaces (cable trays, transformers, HVAC systems, etc.) are accounted for.
  • Coordinate with weighing and load-out teams and support preparation works.
  • Understand, participate in, and support review and checks of lifting plans and transportation within the yard (SPMT, transporter, etc.).

Essential qualifications and skills

  • 10+ years of fabrication and structural engineering experience in direct hire construction with fabrication yards or international oil and gas EPC companies and subcontractors.
  • Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in the Middle East.
  • Experience working with ADNOC is a plus.
  • Prior experience working with a diverse international workforce and in oil and gas.
  • Unique experience in module fabrication, PAR, PAU is a must.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good subcontractor management skills.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
