Supermarket Bake/Deli Clerk

JOB LOCATION: Pojoaque Supermarket
REPORTS TO: Store Manager
DEPARTMENT: Deli
FLSA STATUS: This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position
TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE (DAYS/HRS PER WEEK): TBD. Supermarket operates 7 days a week from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
JOB PURPOSE: Provides excellent customer service to deli customers through food preparation and interaction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Fill and record customer orders, and compute bills using an electronic cash register
- Accept payment from customers and make changes as necessary
- Prepare daily food items using proper safety precautions and sanitary measures
- Select food items from serving or storage areas and place them in dishes, on serving trays, or in takeout containers
- Relay food orders to cooks as needed
- Clean and organize eating, service, and kitchen areas
- Notify kitchen personnel of shortages or special orders
- Communicate with customers regarding orders, comments, and complaints
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
- Experience in fast food customer service helpful
- Knowledge of food preparation, handling, and presentation helpful
- Interest in excellent guest services
- Ability to handle a variety of customer requests and personalities
- Ability to multi-task
- Must be people oriented
- Excellent verbal communication skills
REQUIRED EDUCATION OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Good customer service skills
- Good math skills
- Previous experience in fast food preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Deli setting in a supermarket; Shift work; Required to work weekends, holidays, and overtime
- Standing/Walking, 100% up to 4 hours at a time
- Lifting up to 35 lbs.
- Exposure to heat and smoke from stoves
- Exposure to some cleaning chemicals
- Required to use and operate kitchen equipment and utensils
- Must follow safety precautions and requirements when operating or using equipment, utensils, and chemicals
