Job Summary:
The Security Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day armed security operations for DreamFields facilities in New York. This role leads and supports armed security personnel, ensures consistent coverage and post execution, monitors compliance with company policies and New York State licensing requirements, and serves as the lead point of contact for escalated security incidents. The Security Supervisor is expected to model professionalism, discipline, sound judgment, and calm decision-making while coordinating effective responses to security, safety, and access control concerns.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and support armed security personnel to ensure consistent performance, professionalism, and accountability across assigned shifts.
- Manage post assignments, shift coverage, breaks, and daily security priorities in coordination with the Regional Security Manager.
- Monitor and manage access control, including screening of visitors, employees, vendors, and guests.
- Conduct and oversee regular perimeter patrols, post checks, and safety inspections throughout the facility.
- Respond promptly to onsite incidents, lead initial response efforts, and escalate according to established security protocols.
- Monitor surveillance systems to support safe operations, identify concerns, and deter suspicious behavior.
- Verify the functionality of gates, doors, locks, surveillance equipment, alarm systems, and other security equipment.
- Review and maintain accurate shift logs, incident reports, and security documentation.
- Coach team members on security procedures, escalation expectations, customer interactions, and compliance standards.
- Stay up to date with required training and help ensure assigned team members remain compliant with NYS licensing standards.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and hold security personnel accountable.
- Strong de-escalation, self-defense, conflict resolution, and crisis management skills.
- Clear, professional verbal and written communication, including incident reporting and shift documentation.
- Strong situational awareness and ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- High attention to detail and the ability to enforce procedures consistently and professionally.
- Ability to monitor security technology, including CCTV, access control, alarm systems, and related equipment.
- Must demonstrate reliability, discretion, sound judgment, and commitment to safety.
Certifications & Licensing (New York State Requirements):
All licensing and training documentation must be verified before hire.
All armed security supervisors must meet the following NYS standards:
Security Guard Registration & Training (Required by Article 7A, Section 89-G):
- 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training (prior to licensing).
- 16-Hour On-the-Job Training (OJT) – must be completed within 90 days of hire if not already satisfied.
- 8-Hour Annual In-Service Training (required every calendar year).
Firearms Certification Requirements:
- Valid NYS Concealed Pistol License - photo evidence required.
- Valid NYS Armed Guard Card - photo evidence required, front/back.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in armed security, law enforcement, military, or a related security field required.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience required.
- Experience in cannabis, high-risk environments, or regulated industries is preferred.
- Experience with scheduling, incident response coordination, post orders, inspections, and security documentation preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including interior and exterior patrols and regular use of stairs.
- Ability to respond quickly to incidents, including moving at a brisk pace or short jogs, and to safely escort or physically support individuals when trained and required.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds, such as doors, gates, and security equipment.
- Comfortable working in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to noise, changing temperatures, weather, and other facility conditions.
- Ability to remain alert and attentive while sitting, standing, or monitoring security systems for long periods or entire shifts.
- Sufficient vision and hearing, with or without corrective devices, to observe surroundings and respond to alarms, radios, and access control systems.
Work Schedule (Non-Exempt):
This position is scheduled on a full-time basis. Specific shift times and workdays are determined by the operation and may vary by location. Business needs may require work on evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as occasional overtime. Scheduled start and end times, assigned shifts, and workdays are subject to change based on staffing and operational requirements. Whenever feasible, advance notice of schedule changes will be provided.
