Supervisory Chiropractor

The Supervisory Chiropractor (Service Chief) will serve as the Chief, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Service at the Cincinnati VA Medical Service which includes oversight, planning and development of all Service functions and programs.

This facility is a level 1b complexity facility servicing one of the largest geographical catchment areas in the United States. As the Chief, PM&R Service, the incumbent will plan, direct, and coordinate all aspects of a multifaceted, complex service. The duties of the position includes but are not limited to the following: Administrative Supervisory: Develops, plans and implements monitors of quality care with respect to the PMR Service Line as part of the comprehensive health care services delivered to the patient within the medical center and the four Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). Develops and implements policies and procedures to address focused clinical needs and the overall services delivered and provided within the PMR Service line. Demonstrates autonomy in performing supervisory responsibilities. Participates in research studies and/or as a consultant to others conducting research. Maintains statistical records and necessary information for each section supervised. Clinical: Provides appropriate treatment, with emphasis on maximizing function, both in the psychosocial and physical restorative areas. Assesses effectiveness of treatment daily, and modifies as necessary, always utilizing appropriate graded treatment modalities/activities. Completes electronic progress notes on patients assigned, at appropriate intervals, including observations of patients' functional status, behaviors pertinent to rehabilitation, relevant sort and long-term goals, progress towards discharge, and disposition recommendations. Refers patients via the Consult package when other subspecialty (for example speech language pathology, neuropsychology, social work, psychology, wheelchair clinic, etc.) involvement is indicated. May direct Chiropractors, CAM clinical providers, Chiropractic assistants, students, or aides in performance of proper patient treatment; support the primary staff member leading this effort. May or may not serve as the site director for this program. Administrative: Surveys Service Line areas or safety, adequacy of supplies and proper use of equipment. Works with support staff and stakeholders to resolve issues and track to closure/completion. Provides patient/family education and home treatment programs with instructions for independent therapy, to include safe therapeutic practices. Compiles and submits statistical data required to document patient attendance, therapist workload, and productivity indicators. Represents service at ward rounds and other meetings. Teaches students from affiliated college of university program. Assists in training program for students and in-service training for Chiropractic staff. Assures required supplies, prosthetic items and materials are available in a timely manner as to not negatively impact upon patient care. Education: Identifies developmental and maintenance training needs and presents the same to the Medical Director for Pain Clinic, DRS. Provides treatment education to patients and families/significant others. Serves as a mentor for Chiroptic assistants and restorative nurses. Acts as a resource person and anticipates need by providing teaching-learning experiences for non-Chiropractic staff through in-service. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
