Supervisory Medical Management Specialist

Primary Care Medicine Service at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System provides healthcare in an environment that is patient-centric, integrated across the continuum of care and promotes excellence in quality and patient safety.

The Supervisory Medical Management Specialist assist in providing leadership and coordination (both within and outside the medical center and service as appropriate) in the development, implementation, evaluation, interpretation, revision and necessary corrective action of all applicable administrative policies, functions, activities, operations and programs for medical health care. Major duties but are not limited to: Supervises a team of administrative staff members within the Primary Care Medicine Service. Regularly meets with staff and stakeholders to address any issues, plan future projects, and discuss improvements in any of the Primary Care Medicine Service Programs. Establishes performance improvement groups to solve problems involving the multitude of processes and procedures required to efficiently run the various Primary Care Service programs. Performs duties involving supervision and responsibilities for establishing and implementing overall administrative and clinical policies and priorities for the Service. Supervises the administrative functions associated with services in a clinical or medical service organization. Coordinates activities involving credentialing and privileging of physicians and mid-level staff. Assures proper hiring procedures are followed, and orientation is provided to new staff and residents. Oversees staff are involved in preparing educational proposals, agreements, correspondence, and compilation of reports. Approves and disapproves leave requests and recommends action in unusual cases. Performs duties that directly contribute to the administrative management of the healthcare delivery system. Conducts studies, analyses, and surveys in all areas of Primary Care Medicine operations to enhance operational efficiency, improve patient care effectiveness, and achieve greater cost-efficiency. Coordinates and efficiently manages the operations of the Primary Care Medicine Service as an extension of the Chief, PCMS. Develops and maintains an acute awareness of resource utilization and availability within the Bay Pines VAHCS, making informed recommendations to management regarding needs, distribution, or redistribution of resources. Provides technical support and assistance to Primary Care Medicine Service staff in conducting research, gathering and compiling necessary materials, developing policy statements, and completing special assignments and projects.
