Supervisory Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing)

The Miami VA Healthcare System's Sterile Processing Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Supervisory MST. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program.
The Medical Supply Technician (MST) Supervisor functions as a first-level supervisor responsible for the oversight of a group of MSTs, with administrative responsibility for planning and directing of the work. Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Being responsible for the direct supervision of day-to-day operations in Sterile Processing Services (SPS) regardless of tour of duty including Reusable Medical Devices (RMD) reprocessing for all clinical services Operationalizes the quality assurance program and daily practice to ensure that the right instrument in the right condition is in the right place at the right time Being responsible for operational deployment of a comprehensive training program for all SPS staff- this is in conjunction with the educator Communicating daily with customers to ensure open communication Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities Participating in interview panels and making recommendations regarding hiring decisions Providing recommendations and promotion and advancements of the Medical Supply Technicians on respective shifts Identifying developmental and training needs of employees Establishing guidelines and performance expectations for staff which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system Observing workers performance; demonstrating and conducting work performance critiques, providing feedback and evaluating employee performance Developing work improvement plans; recommending personal option as necessary Providing advice and counsel to workers related to technical work and administrative matters Providing training to subordinates to fully comply with provisions of safety regulations Making operational decisions based upon findings, observations, or problems presented by subordinate technicians and direct observation Advising the assistant chief nurse and chief nurse of problems in the organizations activities and provides input to the assistant chief nurse that may lead to disciplinary actions such as counseling and formal disciplinary actions within the framework of progressive discipline; recommendation may include termination especially separation during the probationary Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., or 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).
