Supervisory Park Ranger (Protection)

You will serve as a Supervisory Park Ranger (Protection) for the Grand Canyon National Park, Visitor & Resource Protection Division, North Rim for the National Park Service. Due to the Dragon Bravo Fire, the North Rim position will be temporarily assigned to the South Rim until conditions allow the incumbent to return. The incumbent should expect frequent travel during this period. Occupancy of government quarters is required. Incentives up to 15% may be authorized.

Some of the major duties you will perform include, but are not limited, to the following: Lead and supervise permanent and seasonal law enforcement staff who protect visitors and park resources in a challenging outdoor environment. Manage daily operations by scheduling staff, approving leave and training, reviewing incident reports, completing performance evaluations, and addressing performance and conduct issues in line with policy. Direct the detection and investigation of criminal activity, including conducting custodial arrests, preparing and executing warrants, interviewing witnesses, detaining suspects, and ensuring completion of clear and comprehensive written reports. Gather and review law enforcement, security, and intelligence information related to park facilities, events, mission activities, and visitor safety, ensuring accurate and timely reporting. Lead all-hazard field operations within the district, including law enforcement response, search and rescue missions, and other emergency incidents. Perform full-scope law enforcement duties as a Type 1 Law Enforcement Officer, providing professional services in an area with concurrent jurisdiction and delivering emergency medical care at the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level or higher. Support specialized operations such as technical rescue, fire response, helicopter-based rescue, small-vessel operations, and other all-hazard activities as assigned.

Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.
