Company Summary

Walmart established the Sourcing Division to closely work with and support all Walmart business divisions in the United States. We develop and maintain a fully integrated supply chain that provides critical support to our retail lines of business, driving value and competitive advantage for Walmart and our customers.
We help power Walmart’s ecosystem by making sourcing easier and seamless.

Position Summary

This position acts as the end-to-end (E2E) control tower for Walmart’s export supply chain programs, based in Costa Rica, managing commodity cargo originating in the Central America (CAM) and Caribbean region, with the United States as the exclusive market of destination.
The role leads cross-functional coordination, capacity planning, risk mitigation, and continuous process optimization, executing Global Sourcing Supply Chain programs (dry and reefer cargo) and managing the movement of cargo from origin through ports, airports, customs, and final destination in the US, at the lowest delivered cost (EDLC), while strictly adhering to Walmart’s compliance standards.
The true value of this role lies in connecting, coordinating, and driving execution across multiple functional teams — Sourcing, Global Logistics, freight forwarders, ocean carriers, origin suppliers and others. While managing logistics files is critical, the supreme skill is making things happen: daily alignment of stakeholders with divergent priorities, removing operational roadblocks, and influencing decisions without direct hierarchical authority over carriers, suppliers, or merchants. Success is defined by proactive anticipation, results orientation, and converting ideas into execution.

Core Responsibility Pillars

• Shipment Execution & E2E Visibility — control tower monitoring from origin in the CAM/Caribbean region to final destination in the US.
• Inventory Balance & Demurrage — daily yard control, inventory tracking, and container age management to avoid fees.
• Reporting, KPIs & Scorecards — owning performance reporting and scorecards that drive accountability and results across the team.
• Carrier & Supplier Relationship Management — maintaining strong working relationships with ocean carriers/steamship lines and conducting visits to origin suppliers.
• Team & Project Leadership — leading direct reports and cross-functional projects, and driving continuous improvement of processes and tools.

You’ll Make an Impact By

• Acting as the E2E control tower for commodity cargo originating in the CAM/Caribbean region, with the US as the exclusive destination market.
• Solving shipping companies’ problems (cut-and-run, itinerary changes, volumes, and allocation/plan commitment).
• Reporting PO discrepancies to Retail Markets and partnering with the Import Logistics team on resolution.
• Building and maintaining relationships with ocean carriers/steamship lines, OCMs, and freight forwarders to secure capacity and resolve service issues.
• Conducting periodic visits to origin suppliers to validate operational readiness, capacity, and program alignment.
• Running weekly meetings with Global Sourcing Managers, suppliers, Ocean Cargo Management companies (OCMs), and shipping lines to align on strategy, new programs, and industry updates.
• Owning reporting, KPIs, and scorecards — keeping allocation reports, backlog trackers, and performance dashboards updated and driving measurable results for Sourcing Managers, cross-functional teams, and leadership.
• Providing full visibility to cross-functional teams on program status, volumes, and any deviation from plan.
• Controlling container yard balance and inventory age daily to minimize demurrage and detention costs.
• Executing seasonal peak plans and coordinating capacity mitigation actions across the CAM/Caribbean export network.
• Leading teams and cross-functional projects to drive continuous improvement and deliver measurable business results.

Key Partnerships

• Sourcing Leadership & Merchants — aligning annual operating volumes (AOP) and active shipping backlog mitigation.
• Global Logistics Teams (Drayage, Facilities, NVOCC) — transit visibility and network optimization.
• Freight Forwarders (e.g., DAMCO, Expeditors) — managing drayage, port entries, and container storage balances.
• Ocean Carrier / Steamship Line Management — maintaining the relationship, committing equipment, and securing space bookings.

What Are We Looking For

• Ocean freight / maritime supply chain background, including cargo booking (OMB or similar TMS) and Cargo Ready Date (CRD) management.
• Experience managing relationships with ocean carriers/steamship lines, OCMs, and freight forwarders/3PLs (e.g., DAMCO, Expeditors).
• Reporting & analytics tools beyond basic Excel: Power BI, Tableau, or SQL for KPI dashboards, scorecards, and forecast accuracy.
• Advanced English, C1 or higher — certified level preferred given senior stakeholder and leadership visibility.
• 5+ years of progressive supply chain/logistics leadership, including direct team management and leading cross-functional projects.
• Regional / multi-country program experience (Central America and/or Caribbean a plus).
• Power of influence and cross-functional teamwork — able to align Sourcing, carriers, suppliers, and customs without direct hierarchical authority.
• Problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, and self-driven ownership of E2E shipment execution and results.
