Support Services Lead
Summary/Purpose of Position: The purpose of the "Support Services Lead Tech" position includes, but is not limited to, the upkeep, maintenance, repair and improvement of the infrastructure and landscaping spanning the entirety of Fossil Rim’s property and business operations, as well as any other property owned or leased by Fossil Rim. The term “infrastructure” includes everything man-made on the property, both above and below ground, that is integral to the operation and functioning of Fossil Rim. The term “landscape” includes lawns, yards, improved or planted beds, pastures, forage production areas, and natural resources for native and managed wildlife.
Specific/Mandatory Duties: The essential responsibilities of the Support Services Lead Tech include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
  • Primarily responsible for all Help Desk tickets that require a skilled technician.
  • Perform basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Provide basic support for the entire facility, including garbage removal, general customer service, and patrolling roadways.
  • Manage forage production.
  • Drive and operate small maintenance equipment (e.g., chainsaws, weed trimmers, mowers, hand tools, trucks, and lawn tractors).
  • Drive and operate farm and heavy equipment (e.g., tractors, balers, road graders, etc.).
  • Clean and maintain garden and maintenance equipment.
  • Maintain regular and dependable attendance.
  • Be available for after-hours and weekend call-outs during emergencies.
  • Ensure compliance with the Employee Handbook, Risk Management Plan, all safety rules and procedures, and the company's vision, mission, and goals.
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 2/3 of the workday.
  • Be able to bend over and perform physical labor.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently, producing timely and consistent work products.
  • Ability to work outside all day in weather conditions ranging from extreme heat (over 100 degrees) to extreme cold (below freezing), as well as wet conditions.
The secondary responsibilities of the Support Services Lead Tech include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
  • Assist the Repairs & Improvements (maintenance) team when needed.
  • Assist with maintaining hay fields.
  • Safely pull and maneuver a trailer.
  • Operate the fire truck as needed.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Support Services Manager.
Skills and Education Requirements:
  • Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
  • Must be able to safely operate equipment normally associated with gardening and farming.
  • Must be able to use hand tools (such as hoes, rakes, and spades) as well as use and maintain gas- or electric-powered tools and equipment (such as mowers, tillers, electric clippers, edgers, chainsaws, power drills, table saws, etc.).
  • Required to perform basic maintenance and repairs on tools and equipment.
  • Primary contacts will be with managers and internal staff members as necessary to carry out the general duties of the position.
Work Requirements: This position is designated as Essential to Fossil Rim throughout the year. During times when Fossil Rim is closed due to unexpected events, any Essential employee scheduled to work must report to work as scheduled. This position typically requires a 5-day work week, often demanding scheduling flexibility and the ability to work weekends and holidays. It involves irregular scheduling in which shifts may exceed 8 hours and work weeks may exceed five days.

Position Specs: This is a full-time, exempt position. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is an "at-will" and Equal Opportunity Employer. Employees will experience exposure to normal atmospheric conditions, dirt, dust, and weather variables.
