Surgical Coordinator - ENT, Hartford / Farmington - Full Time
The Surgical Coordinator is responsible for scheduling surgeries and procedures. Responsibilities include coordinating surgical procedures, scheduling and obtaining pre-operative testing, and collecting necessary documentation for surgeries and procedures. This individual works closely with patients, physicians, and surgery location/outside hospitals to providing accurate, timely, and responsive paperwork. Additionally, ensures documentation is complete to allow for accurate and timely billing.
Position Overview: The Surgical Coordinator is responsible for the scheduling of all surgical procedures and general administrative work related to surgical patients. The Surgical Coordinator works in collaboration with the specialty group and perioperative team to ensure procedures are scheduled appropriately. The Surgical Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and organizing required documentation in advance of the scheduled procedure and that appropriate paperwork is scanned into the chart. He/she will perform other related duties as needed to maintain department cost containment, efficiency, as well as quality performance.
Complete accurate and all components of registration (i.e. insurance, MyChart, etc.)
Schedule surgery and other procedures as requested by physician. Work with other divisions to coordinate procedures requiring multiple physicians.
Communicate surgical/procedure date and pre-operative requirements to patient/family.
Arrange any necessary specialty consultation and schedule appointments as needed
Arrange any testing/equipment as needed--(e.g. spinal cord monitoring service, PICU, blood transfusions, etc.)
Confirm insurance information and obtain accurate financial information to allow for timely and accurate billing.
Manage and coordinate all prior authorizations as necessary
Manage billing and coding questions related to surgery or procedures
Responsible for charge review to ensure all charges are captured correctly
Assists with optimization of workflows and protocols for scheduling as necessary
Perform other duties as assigned.

High School education required
3 years of experience in a Surgical Group practice preferred.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience in surgical booking in a hospital setting preferred.
Experience in project oriented positions preferred.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of third party reimbursement guidelines
Knowledge and experience working with EPIC
Working knowledge/understanding of CPT4 and ICD-9 & 10 coding
Computer literate--experience with Microsoft products--Excel, Access, Word
SKILLS:
Excellent organizational skills.
