SVP / Senior Credit Manager

This individual is expected to be a mature banking professional, with the ability to work in a multi-faceted and changing environment, with strong ability to identify critical issues, interpret and resolve differences. The primary responsibilities are to be attentive to the requirements of the Banks Credit Policy; to have the capacity to review loans of all types and complexity to assure acceptable credit and underwriting standards; to assure that loans and lending activities conform to policy; develop a working network within the bank; and to develop timely reporting for the Board of Directors. This individual would be expected to mentor and lead members of the Credit Administration group and provide support specifically to the Chief Credit Officer.

The role directs the Credit Underwriting Team of a publicly-traded (NASDAQ-listed), approximately $2.9 billion community bank, overseeing underwriting activity across commercial real estate, C&I and asset-based lending, SBA, HELOC, Global Correspondent Banking, HOA, and specialty and consumer lending verticals. The successful candidate will hold delegated credit approval authority; serve as a primary credit liaison for regulatory examinations, loan review, and external audits; and partner with executive management on credit policy, concentration management, and portfolio strategy within a public-company governance environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Employ intuitive insights to credit administration

  1. Exercise sound judgment.
  2. Engage the credit process to assure consistent credit culture
  3. Identify credit risk management issues with recommended corrective action
  4. Assist the Bank’s Chief Credit Officer in coordination of regulatory requirements and ensure adherence to all regulations on loan transactions
  5. Assist the Bank’s Chief Credit Officer in the development, writing and implementing Credit Policy.
  6. Monitor and apply changes in policy and regulations
  7. Attend Directors Loan Committee, Audit Committee, and Board of Directors meetings ex officio as required
  8. Review and approve loans within the lending authority granted by the Board of Directors.
  9. Review and approve annual reviews of the commercial loan portfolio to determine accuracy of risk identification, credit quality and loan performance

11. Directly manage, mentor, and develop the Credit Underwriting Team (including senior credit underwriters and credit analysts), overseeing approximately 400 to 500 loan requests annually—originations, renewals, and modifications—ranging from $50,000 to $65 million across all business lines.

12. Underwrite and oversee credit across commercial real estate (income-producing, construction, repositioning, and rehabilitation), C&I and asset-based lending, SBA, HELOC, Global Correspondent Banking, HOA, and specialty and consumer lending programs;

13. Hold delegated individual and joint credit approval authority and present complex credit packages to the Directors’ Loan Committee, providing recommendations on facility risk ratings, structure, and mitigants.

14. Identifies deteriorating credits

15. Recommends criticized/classified loan risk ratings

16. Supervise the writing of all commitment letters

17. Responsible for the proper identification of Trouble Debt Restructured loans

18. Supervise Construction loans. Supervision of disbursement analysis, ensuring compliance with approved terms and conditions, including budget to complete, budget sufficiency, estimation of construction completion, monitoring subcontractors of record to prevent liens for nonpayment.

19. Supervise and approve releases of the Bank’s collateral.

20. Assist Chief Credit Officer in monitoring the Bank’s commercial portfolio; loan concentrations, loan segmentations, policy exceptions.

21. Provide management, leadership, training, and guidance to the Credit staff to foster the Bank’s credit strategy.

22. Participate actively in the hiring process as related to Credit Administration areas. Evaluate the performance of subordinates, recommend compensation, promotion or corrective action, as required

23. Provide coaching and counseling to relationship managers responsible for developing and maintaining core credit relationships.

24. Performs other duties as assigned.
