Swim Instructor Assistant
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes. Helps create a positive experience with the students in the swimming classes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
- Learn to prepare swim lessons plans for assigned classes.
- Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Encourage parent involvement with the students for swim lessons.
- Maintain records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)
- Responsible for turning in availability for schedule at least four weeks before the first week of the swim session.
- Attending all staff meetings, in-service training, and completing Redwood’s training and mandatory meetings.
- Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
- Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Organize and put away needed class equipment. Report damaged equipment.
- If sick or another event occurs a 4 hour call off is required. Finding a substitute/assist if not able to work.
- Appropriate swim attire full coverage one or two piece.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to instruct and identify proper stroke techniques.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds.
- No cell phones/smart watches (IOS or Android) are permitted during shifts.
EFFECT ON END RESULTS:
- Aquatic environment will be safer.
- The YMCA will gain and retain members.
- YMCA programs will grow.
- YMCA members will become more engaged in the YMCA mission.
