About the Role

At States Industries, our Short Cycle Press (SCP) Operators help keep one of our key production lines running safely, efficiently, and to our quality standards.

This is a hands-on, fast-paced manufacturing role that rotates through multiple positions on the SCP line. Operators are expected to learn and perform all aspects of the line, including panel layup, Face and Back stations, press operation, putty, trim, quality inspection, production reporting, and forklift relief.

This position requires strong attention to detail, good computer skills, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to maintain production pace without sacrificing safety or quality.

Previous manufacturing experience is preferred. Forklift experience and strong computer skills are highly valued, and bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.

What You’ll Do

As an SCP Operator, you will:

  • Rotate through and learn all operating positions on the Short Cycle Press line.
  • Read and follow production schedules, layup lists, load tickets, SOPs, POSs, and customer requirements.
  • Confirm materials and products being run meet specifications before and during production.
  • Work efficiently to maintain established production rates, including a target pace of up to four panels per minute in applicable positions.
  • Operate Face and Back stations and correctly orient veneer during layup.
  • Operate, load, and unload the press.
  • Set and monitor press pressure, heat, and cycle times according to established specifications.
  • Operate the trim section of the line.
  • Perform putty operations and follow established putty color and production requirements.
  • Measure glue spread and make appropriate adjustments based on product requirements.
  • Inspect loads and panels for defects and immediately communicate quality concerns.
  • Perform required quality checks throughout production.
  • Understand how quality issues at SCP can affect downstream production processes.
  • Match wood species and grades to load tickets and production requirements.
  • Print production and inventory tags and accurately tag and separate completed loads.
  • Complete inventory, labor, and production transactions in Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D-365).
  • Accurately record required process and quality information.
  • Use a micrometer and other measuring equipment as required.
  • Safely operate a forklift for break relief and other assigned duties.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain press plates and other equipment.
  • Perform routine cleaning and basic troubleshooting of SCP equipment.
  • Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and other established safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift.
  • Participate in TWI training, JSAs, 5S, Kaizen, Safety, Quality, and other continuous improvement activities.
  • Work closely with leads, forklift drivers, and other team members to achieve safety, quality, and production goals.
  • Learn additional jobs throughout the SCP area and step in wherever needed to support the team.
