System Administrator

A System Administrator is responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, especially multi-user computers such as servers. The role helps ensure that the uptime, performance, resources, and security of the systems managed meet user needs while operating within budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the company’s computer systems.
  • Regularly monitor system performance and usage to ensure compliance with operational standards.
  • Perform routine system maintenance and provide technical support for hardware and software issues.
  • Assist employees with troubleshooting issues and provide support as needed.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on new software applications and updates.
  • Implement and maintain security measures, including firewalls, antivirus software, and data backup procedures.
  • Monitor network activity to identify and mitigate security threats.
  • Plan and execute system upgrades, including the installation of new hardware and software.
  • Ensure that upgrades are completed with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of system configurations, changes, and updates.
  • Prepare regular reports on system performance and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Oversee the acquisition, deployment, maintenance, and disposal of assets.
  • Maintain accurate records of all assets, including their location, status, and condition.
  • Ensure proper tagging and tracking of assets using asset management software.
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of computer systems and proficiency in operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, Unix) and system administration tools.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices, including experience implementing security measures and responding to security breaches.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical staff.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts in an understandable manner.
  • Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and rapidly changing environments.
  • Willingness to continually update skills and knowledge to stay current with industry trends.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with other IT staff to achieve common goals and solve problems efficiently.
  • Ability to work confidently in a rapidly changing, fast-paced and results-oriented corporate environment where a high degree of flexibility is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required Qualifications:

Years of Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in system administration, IT infrastructure, technical support, or a related technical field.
  • Experience supporting computer systems, operating systems, hardware, software, and end-user troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of system security, backup procedures, system upgrades, and IT asset management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or similar certification.
  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent certification.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or similar certification.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Working Conditions:

  • Typically works in an office environment.
  • Requires sitting, operating a computer keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment for extended periods of time.
  • May be required to provide onsite technical support for computer hardware, software, systems, and IT assets.

$81,000– $91,000 annually is the estimated pay range for this role working in Fremont, California office. The final amount will be determined based on qualifications & experience of the candidate relative to the role.
