Administers and secures Conservation Legacy's Microsoft 365 environment day to day — managing Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, and Intune — while implementing security controls (MFA, Conditional Access, Defender), resolving escalated support tickets, and building PowerShell automation. Fully remote within the contiguous US.
Title: System Administrator – Microsoft 365
Starting Salary Range: The starting salary range for this position will be in the $79,300-$81,679 range, depending on experience, education, and skills relevant to the position. Please note that the indicated starting salary range describes the range for an incumbent in this position. Most new staff generally start at the beginning of the range percentile to ensure internal salary equity.
Location: Fully remote eligible within the contiguous United States only.
Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Position Summary:
The Microsoft 365 System Administrator is responsible for the administration, support, security, and optimization of the organization’s Microsoft 365 environment. This role manages core Microsoft cloud services including Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, Intune, and related security and compliance tools. The administrator ensures reliable service delivery, maintains secure configurations, supports end users, and collaborates with IT leadership on governance, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This position requires strong technical knowledge of Microsoft 365 services, identity and access management, endpoint management, and security best practices, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and communicate effectively with users and stakeholders.
Outcomes & Functions of Position:
Microsoft 365 Administration
- Administer and maintain the organization’s Microsoft 365 tenant and related cloud services.
- Manage user accounts, mailboxes, groups, shared mailboxes, resource mailboxes, and licensing.
- Configure and support Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and related collaboration services.
- Administer Microsoft Entra ID, including user lifecycle management, group management, and access controls.
- Support Intune and endpoint management for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices as applicable.
- Maintain Microsoft 365 configuration standards, policies, and documentation.
Security and Compliance
- Implement and support security controls across Microsoft 365, including MFA, Conditional Access, anti-phishing, anti-malware, and data protection policies.
- Monitor security alerts and investigate suspicious activity within Microsoft 365 and related platforms.
- Assist with the administration of Microsoft Defender, Exchange Online Protection, and other Microsoft security tools.
- Support compliance initiatives including data retention, audit logging, sensitivity labeling, and eDiscovery as assigned.
- Participate in security reviews, incident response, and remediation efforts.
User and Service Support
- Serve as an escalation point on support tickets for Microsoft 365 issues affecting email, collaboration, authentication, file access, mobile devices, and endpoint compliance.
- Troubleshoot escalated issues related to Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive sync, mobile email, and identity/authentication.
- Coordinate with IT staff, vendors, and Microsoft support as needed to resolve incidents.
- Assist in onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring proper provisioning and deprovisioning of access and services.
- Support end-user adoption and training efforts for Microsoft 365 tools and best practices.
Automation, Reporting, and Improvement
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts and automation workflows to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Generate reports on licensing, usage, security posture, device compliance, mail flow, or other Microsoft 365 metrics.
- Identify opportunities to improve administration, governance, security, and operational processes.
- Assist with Microsoft 365 migrations, service rollouts, policy changes, and platform enhancements.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, procedures, and knowledge base articles.
Organizational Advocacy
- Successfully engages, leads and supports a positive work environment for all within the organization and the communities we serve.
- Leads and/or participates in organizational-wide teams, projects and initiatives that support the work of the Strategic Plans goals.
- Reports any potential complaints within the organization as identified in the Personnel Policy Manual.
- Assists or leads other responsibilities, as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of systems administration experience, including hands-on administration of Microsoft 365.
- Experience administering several of the following:
- Exchange Online
- Microsoft Entra ID
- SharePoint Online
- OneDrive for Business
- Microsoft Teams
- Microsoft Intune
- Microsoft Defender
- Azure/Entra-related identity and access controls
- Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across identity, email, endpoint, and collaboration platforms.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 security best practices, including MFA, Conditional Access, and email protection.
- Experience with endpoint/device management and compliance policies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- Ability to operate Microsoft Office programs and applications, or similar platforms.
- Ability to keep others and oneself, in remote locations, accountable to expectations.
- Valid Driver’s License and Insurable Driving Record per Personnel Policies.
- Must be able to pass the organization’s criminal history check requirements.
- Ability to successfully work in a fluid, changing work environment.

- Microsoft certifications such as:
- Microsoft 365 Administrator (MS-102)
- Microsoft Security Administrator (SC-300)
- Microsoft Endpoint Administrator (MD-100/101)
- Azure/Entra identity-related certifications
- Experience with nonprofit or education environments
- Experience with multi-site/remote environments.
- Familiarity with backup/recovery solutions for Microsoft 365.
- Experience with scripting, reporting, and automation beyond PowerShell (e.g., Power Automate).
- Knowledge of governance, compliance, and retention strategies in Microsoft 365.
