About the Role:
We are seeking a strategic and technically skilled System Architect to design and lead the architecture of software systems for our external clients. In this role, you will work directly with client stakeholders to understand their business requirements, define architectural blueprints, and oversee the implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performance systems. You will also be hands-on with code, writing and reviewing software in languages such as Java, Python, C#, or JavaScript/TypeScript, ensuring that architectural designs are correctly implemented and that development teams are well guided.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Client System Architecture & Design
1.1 Collaborate with external clients to analyse business requirements and design the overall architecture for their applications, platforms, and systems.
1.2 Document architectural blueprints, including system components, integration points, data flows, and technology stacks, ensuring alignment with client objectives and industry best practices.
2. Software Development & Coding
2.1 Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code in languages such as Java, Python, C#, or JavaScript/TypeScript to implement critical system components, prototypes, and integration layers.
2.2 Conduct code reviews, unit testing, debugging, and performance tuning to ensure high-quality, maintainable software deliverables that meet architectural specifications.
3. Technology Strategy & Evaluation
3.1 Evaluate and recommend software frameworks, cloud services, and tools (e.g., AWS, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, microservices) suited to each client’s technical environment and business goals.
3.2 Lead build-vs-buy decisions and technology selection, assessing vendor solutions, open-source options, and total cost of ownership for client engagements.
4. System Integration & Architecture Governance
4.1 Architect and oversee the integration of software components, third-party APIs, and external services to ensure seamless functionality and data flow across client systems.
4.2 Define architectural standards, patterns, and governance frameworks to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance across all client projects.
5. Performance, Security & Reliability Architecture
5.1 Define performance benchmarks, monitoring frameworks, and testing protocols to ensure client systems achieve high availability and low-latency processing.
5.2 Establish security architecture and data governance policies for client solutions, ensuring compliance with New Zealand privacy regulations and industry standards.
6. Technical Leadership & Client Collaboration
6.1 Provide architectural guidance and technical leadership to development teams, participating in hands-on coding where needed and mentoring engineers on best practices.
6.2 Collaborate with client stakeholders, project managers, and internal teams to align software architecture with business goals and project roadmaps.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
2. If the above qualification is not met, a minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a System Architect, Solution Architect, or Senior Software Engineer is required.
3. Strong expertise in designing large-scale, data-intensive systems, preferably in marketing technology, ad tech, or analytics domains.
4. In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), big-data frameworks (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka), and database technologies (SQL/NoSQL).
5. Experience with microservices architecture, API design, and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
6. Proven ability to lead architectural initiatives and mentor technical teams.
7. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
8. Outstanding communication and stakeholder management abilities.
9. Experience with marketing analytics, SEO platforms, or programmatic advertising is a significant advantage.
