System Engineer Robotic Actuators (m/f/x)
As a System Engineer specialising in Robot Actuators, you are responsible for the entire actuator system, including the motor, inverter, gearbox and sensors, which work together in the joint of a humanoid robot. Starting with typical robot use cases, you turn this into clear requirements. You design the architecture of the actuator and ensure that it performs well on the test bench and in our customers’ robots. This role combines technical systems work with direct contact with humanoid robot manufacturers.
You will join our System Engineering team in Garching. Building on our expertise in compact, high-torque electric drives, we develop actuators for humanoid robots. You will work closely with colleagues responsible for individual components and testing, acting as the technical point of contact for our customers.
- Translate humanoid use cases into joint load profiles
- Derive actuator requirements and break them down to component level: torque, speed, stiffness, back drivability, mass and package space
- Align requirements with customers and track them
- Own and further develop the actuator architecture of motor, inverter and gearbox
- Define interfaces between the components and to the robot platform: mechanical, electrical, thermal and communication
- Build system models of the actuator and use electromagnetic and thermal simulations on component level for motor design
- Assess continuous load capability and efficiency and feed the results back into requirements and design
- Define the validation strategy on system level
- Specify test bench and integration tests, evaluate the results and derive design changes
- Be the technical contact for humanoid manufacturers on requirements, sample deliveries and integration
- Provide the technical basis for customer requests, RFIs and RFQs
- Degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics or a related field
- 3+ years of professional experience in humanoid robotics, ideally with actuators
- Deep knowledge of system requirements in robotics
- Experience in actuator system integration: motor, inverter, gearbox and encoder
- Experience in system level testing and validation of humanoids
- Simulation background, ideally EMAG or thermal, is a plus
- Knowledge of encoders and position sensors is a plus
- Very good English and confidence in technical discussions with customers
- 100 EUR Flex-Budget per month (internet, mobility, vouchers or sports)
- Lunch subsidy for meals on site
- Participation in our virtual stock option program
- Company pension scheme
- FINN car subscription
- Bikeleasing
- A high level of responsibility and room to make an impact
- Working in a tech-company with a strong team and flat hierarchies
- Diverse learning and development opportunities across a broad range of topics
