Help develop and validate the autonomous technology transforming underground mining.
This is an exciting opportunity to work at the leading edge of mining robotics, autonomy and safety technology, helping develop and validate sophisticated systems that are changing how underground mines operate.
Our client is a global OEM and recognised leader in mining equipment and mining technology, developing advanced Mining Operational Technology (OT) that brings together autonomous machines, robotics, onboard and offboard software, communications, positioning and complex control systems.
Based at the client's Bibra Lake office in Perth, you'll join the global engineering effort responsible for the integration and validation of its advanced underground technology portfolio, including autonomous mining systems and the sophisticated Detect for Underground product.
This is an initial 12-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension. The position requires you to work in the Bibra Lake office five days per week and involves travel of up to 50% to proving grounds and customer mine sites.
Work on real autonomous mining machines
The autonomous technology is currently being used to automate Load-Haul-Dump (LHD) machines, enabling remote, semi-autonomous and autonomous operation in challenging underground mining environments.
And the technology continues to evolve.
The automation roadmap extends beyond LHDs, with underground haul trucks also forming part of the future automation program, creating an opportunity to contribute to the next generation of autonomous underground mining equipment.
You'll also gain exposure to a sophisticated technology platform designed to improve the safety and situational awareness of people and mobile equipment operating underground.
Together, these technologies form part of an increasingly connected underground mining environment where machines, people, software, communications and operational systems need to work together reliably as an integrated system.
A genuinely global engineering program
Development of these products is a global engineering effort, with teams across Australia, the United States and India collaborating on the underground technology portfolio.
Importantly, Australia is making a significant contribution to the development of these products.
You'll be joining engineers who aren't simply providing local support for technology developed overseas. The Australian team is actively contributing to the engineering, systems integration, validation and evolution of technology that will ultimately be deployed at underground mining operations around the world.
More than a software testing role
This isn't simply a software testing position.
As a System Integration & Validation Engineer, you'll work with complete underground technology and autonomous systems, validating how machines, software, communications and other subsystems interact as an integrated solution.
Testing progresses through simulation, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), proving-ground environments and customer mine sites, giving you exposure to the technology from development and integration through to validation on full-size underground mining equipment.
You'll work closely with engineering and product teams to understand how the overall system should behave, establish clear and testable success criteria, identify problems and help ensure the technology performs reliably in demanding real-world environments.
What you'll be doing
We're looking for someone with a strong systems mindset who enjoys understanding how complex technologies work together, rather than testing individual software features in isolation.
This is an opportunity to move beyond conventional software or product testing and work with real-world robotics and autonomous machine technology.
You'll contribute to sophisticated systems that need to function reliably in some of the world's most challenging operating environments, while collaborating with engineering teams across Australia, the United States and India.
You'll also be joining an Australian engineering group making a significant contribution to the global product development program, rather than simply implementing or supporting technology developed elsewhere.
For an engineer interested in robotics, autonomy, complex systems and the future of heavy industrial technology, this provides the opportunity to work on technology where software doesn't just run an application - it interacts with and helps control some of the world's most sophisticated underground mining machines and systems.
