System Testing/QA Specialist Intermediate

Overview

The QA Specialist is responsible for planning, designing, and executing testing strategies for large-scale, complex business systems. This role ensures system quality through manual and automated testing, data validation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams in Agile and traditional environments.


Key Responsibilities

Test Strategy & Planning

  • Define and advise on testing strategies, methodologies, tools, and resource requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test data
  • Plan and coordinate testing efforts across GUI and non-GUI environments
  • Support System Integration Testing (SIT), UAT, regression, and specialized testing

Test Execution & Defect Management

  • Execute functional, integration, system, regression, and UAT testing
  • Validate system behavior under various conditions
  • Identify, log, track, and manage defects using:
    • ALM / HP QC
    • JIRA
    • Bugzilla
    • Azure DevOps
  • Work closely with developers to troubleshoot and resolve issues

Automation & Performance Testing

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using:
    • Selenium / Cypress
    • Micro Focus / OpenText UFT
    • TestComplete / Postman
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
  • Perform performance, load, and stress testing using tools like:
    • JMeter
    • LoadRunner

Data & Backend Testing

  • Validate data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across systems
  • Perform data migration, transformation, and reconciliation testing
  • Write queries for backend validation (Oracle or similar DBs)
  • Manage test data strategies ensuring privacy and realistic datasets

Accessibility & Compliance

  • Conduct accessibility testing aligned with:
    • AODA
    • WCAG 2.0 / 2.1 AA standards
  • Use tools such as:
    • WAVE
    • JAWS
    • NVDA
    • Compliance Sheriff

Collaboration & Agile Delivery

  • Collaborate with Developers, BAs, PMs, and QA Leads
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies:
    • Sprint Planning
    • Stand-ups
    • Retrospectives
  • Provide inputs for release notes and user documentation

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed records of:
    • Test execution results
    • Test coverage
    • Quality metrics
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and SDLC processes


Requirements

Mandatory Requirements (Must Have)

  • Strong experience in manual testing for large, complex, business-critical systems
  • Expertise in:
    • Test planning, test case creation, and execution
    • Test strategy development for dynamic, rule-based systems
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Data reconciliation & validation testing
    • 3-tier web-based applications
  • Proven experience in Accessibility testing (AODA / WCAG 2.0 AA)
  • Experience with tools:
    • JIRA, Bugzilla, Azure DevOps
    • HP/Microfocus suite
  • Experience testing:
    • Custom-built and COTS applications (e.g., IBM J-Rules Engine)

Public Sector Experience

  • Experience working with government ministries / agencies (preferred)

Additional / Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of programming languages (Python, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Experience in test automation scripting
  • Experience with COTS applications testing
  • Knowledge of object-oriented testing environments
  • Understanding of Information Management principles
