Systems Administrator

About the roles

We’re working with an established Hawke’s Bay organisation looking for two Systems Administrators to join its internal IT Operations team for a 12-month fixed-term period.

The organisation has a substantial programme of technical work to deliver over the coming year, including Windows Server upgrades, Microsoft 365 and Intune rollout activity, infrastructure refreshes, and ongoing systems administration support.

These are practical, hands-on roles for people who enjoy solving problems, completing work properly, and keeping technical work moving. You’ll work under the direction of experienced senior engineers and a project manager, with clear priorities, technical oversight, and agreed change processes.

The two opportunities have slightly different areas of focus. One is centred on Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Intune, and systems administration. The other is a broader delivery role suited to an adaptable systems or infrastructure generalist who can move between workstreams as priorities change.

Depending on your experience, your work may include:

• Supporting Windows Server upgrades and administration tasks
• Assisting with Microsoft 365 and Intune rollout activity
• Supporting Active Directory, Entra ID, and Group Policy
• Completing server patching, maintenance, and remediation work
• Supporting infrastructure refresh and implementation activity
• Resolving BAU systems administration tickets and follow-up work
• Assisting with network, switch, WAN or Wi-Fi support tasks
• Supporting site implementation and testing
• Working from agreed instructions, change plans, and runbooks
• Documenting changes, processes, and handover information
• Communicating progress, risks, and blockers clearly
• Escalating higher-risk or complex issues to senior engineers

What we’re looking for:

• Practical experience across systems administration, Microsoft platforms or infrastructure support

• Experience with Windows Server administration, upgrades, or maintenance

• Exposure to Microsoft 365 administration and support

• Experience with Intune or endpoint management would be useful

• Familiarity with Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, or device configuration

• Confidence working within a live production environment

• Ability to pick up assigned work and see it through without close supervision

• Good judgement about when to troubleshoot independently and when to escalate

• Clear communication and reliable documentation habits

• Willingness to contribute across both project work and BAU support

• Basic PowerShell or automation experience would be useful

These roles are for capable systems professionals who enjoy practical delivery and can work productively within an established technical team.

What’s on offer?

· Competitive salary package

· Variety across systems projects, upgrades, and operational support

· Clear technical direction from experienced senior engineers

· Exposure across Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Intune, and wider infrastructure activity

· The opportunity to join at a time when there is plenty of work to deliver

Ready to get stuck in?

If you’re a practical Systems Administrator who enjoys solving technical problems, delivering work to a good standard, and being part of a capable team, we’d like to hear from you.
