Mars Recruitment is partnering with an established Western Australian financial services organisation to appoint an experienced IT Systems Administrator.

Supporting approximately 100 employees, you will be the organisation's primary hands-on technical resource, responsible for maintaining its Microsoft environment, servers, networks, endpoints, security platforms and business systems.

This is a varied internal position offering genuine ownership of the day-to-day technology environment. You will manage infrastructure and user-support requirements while strengthening cyber security controls, improving Essential Eight maturity and contributing to technology projects.

Key responsibilities

Systems and network administration

  • Administer Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, Entra ID and endpoint environments.
  • Configure and troubleshoot switches, firewalls, VLANs, DNS, DHCP and TCP/IP.
  • Monitor server, network and system health.
  • Manage endpoints and coordinate security patching.
  • Maintain backup, disaster-recovery and business-continuity solutions.
  • Manage user access, onboarding, offboarding and equipment provisioning.
  • Coordinate with technology vendors and service providers.
  • Maintain accurate infrastructure and system documentation.

Cyber security

  • Monitor and investigate security alerts and suspicious activity.
  • Respond to phishing, malware, compromised accounts and endpoint-security incidents.
  • Administer and monitor Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, EDR and identity-security technologies.
  • Coordinate vulnerability identification, prioritisation and remediation.
  • Maintain and improve Essential Eight controls and the organisation's cyber security plan.
  • Support MFA, privileged access and identity-management controls.
  • Assist with cyber risk assessments, audits and compliance reviews.
  • Contribute to incident response, recovery and security-awareness initiatives.

IT support and projects

  • Provide responsive Level 1 and 2 technical support across approximately 100 employees.
  • Troubleshoot Microsoft 365, Windows, Outlook, hardware, software and mobile-device issues.
  • Support and improve the organisation's SharePoint intranet.
  • Assist with online forms, workflows and process-automation initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline manual processes and improve service delivery.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, including appropriate uses for AI tools.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to deliver technology projects and support user adoption.

About you

This opportunity would suit a well-rounded Systems Administrator, Infrastructure Engineer or senior IT Support Engineer who is comfortable independently managing a small-to-medium internal environment.

You will ideally bring:

  • At least three to five years' experience across systems administration, infrastructure support or a comparable internal IT position.
  • Strong Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policy administration skills.
  • Experience administering Entra ID, Intune or comparable endpoint-management technologies.
  • Practical networking experience across firewalls, switches, VLANs, DNS and DHCP.
  • Experience supporting backup and disaster-recovery solutions.
  • Hands-on cyber security experience, including alert investigation, endpoint security and vulnerability remediation.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, Sophos or comparable SIEM and EDR platforms.
  • Knowledge of the Essential Eight and broader security-compliance practices.
  • Experience supporting or administering SharePoint Online.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation and stakeholder-communication skills.
  • The confidence to independently manage competing infrastructure, security and support priorities.
  • A professional, responsive and service-focused approach to end-user support.

Experience within financial services or another regulated environment would be highly regarded.

What's on offer

  • Salary of approximately $120,000 plus superannuation.
  • Broad ownership of an established internal IT environment.
  • Direct involvement across infrastructure, networking, security and projects.
  • The opportunity to improve systems, processes and cyber security maturity.
  • A stable permanent position with an established Western Australian organisation.
