Description

A small site, a five-person IT team, and a wide set of systems that all have to keep working.

A multinational defence organisation in the south-west of England needs a hands-on technician who is happy to look after servers, networks and users in the same week.

What you would be doing

  • Running several VMware vCenter and ESXi hosts, plus the Windows servers behind AD, DNS and DHCP
  • Basic care of switches and firewalls, a cross-domain diode and a GPS time server
  • Installing and patching server and client software, including SharePoint and SQL Server
  • Looking after a bespoke server application and its database, and a messaging tool
  • Renewing certificates, managing encrypted drives and loading keys onto crypto devices
  • Helping with VEEAM backups, virtual desktops, thin clients and print servers
  • Supporting the local service desk, escorting visiting engineers and testing new systems
  • Keeping the documentation for your systems up to date

What you would bring

  • Extensive Windows Server administration
  • Intermediate network maintenance and configuration
  • Advanced workstation administration and solid service desk experience
  • Comfort juggling several systems at once and reacting quickly to users
  • Vocational IT training, or secondary education in IT system administration with five years of experience
  • Nice to have: ITIL Foundation, VEEAM, Horizon View, Trellix ePO, PKI certificate renewal, and time in a mixed military and civilian setting

Why this one is worth a look

No corner of the estate is someone else's problem here, and that is exactly what makes it interesting.
