Systems and Network Engineer
Summary
Maintains and secures on-prem and cloud IT infrastructure for a healthcare provider, focusing on Windows servers, networking, and HIPAA/HDS compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a dedicated and proactive Systems and Network Engineer, overseeing the organization’s IT infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability across servers, network systems, security infrastructure, and cloud services.
- Design, implement, and maintain robust IT infrastructure tailored to the needs of a healthcare environment, ensuring support for critical hospital operations with high availability and security.
- Manage on-premises and cloud infrastructure, oversee cybersecurity measures, and enforce compliance with healthcare regulations to safeguard sensitive patient data and guarantee continuous service delivery.
- Maintain and administer Windows servers, virtualization platforms (Hyper-V, VMware), and enterprise storage solutions.
- Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Ensure disaster recovery readiness through backups and replication.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and apply security patches and updates.
- Design, configure, and maintain LAN, WLAN, VPN, and associated infrastructure.
- Administer firewalls, switches, routers, and ensure network segmentation and redundancy.
- Implement and monitor network security policies, intrusion detection systems, and access controls.
- Diagnose and resolve network connectivity and performance issues.
- Implement cybersecurity best practices, oversee endpoint protection, and conduct vulnerability assessments.
- Enforce compliance with healthcare security frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, HDS).
- Conduct security audits, manage encryption and authentication policies, and control user access.
- Maintain detailed network diagrams, configuration documents, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide standby support during off-office hours and weekends on a rotating roster to ensure 24/7 infrastructure availability.
- Execute any other ad-hoc tasks assigned by the supervisor or reporting officer.
Requirements:
- Relevant professional certifications highly preferred (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+, Security+).
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in systems and network administration, preferably within healthcare or other regulated sectors.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing Windows server environments, virtualization technologies (Hyper-V, VMware), and enterprise storage systems.
- Strong experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy management.
- Proficiency in configuring and managing firewalls, switches, routers, and VPN infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of LAN/WAN technologies, wireless networking, and network security tools.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks, risk assessments, and compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, HDS).
- Experience in developing and executing backup and disaster recovery strategies.
- Skilled in diagnosing and resolving complex system and network issues.
- Hands-on experience with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or equivalents.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
