Systems Architect
Summary
The Systems Architect will lead the design, integration, and verification of complex aviation and defence electronics systems throughout the product lifecycle. The role involves translating customer requirements into technical specifications and managing engineering artifacts within a collaborative, on-site environment.
Thomas Global Systems is a leader in the design, manufacture and support of high-integrity aviation and defence electronics, operating out of locations in Sydney, Australia and Irvine, California.
We're now looking for a System Architect, experienced in simulation, to join our Engineering team and play a key role in the development, integration, verification and delivery of complex systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a systems thinker who enjoys turning customer requirements into practical, innovative and verifiable solutions.
Location: on-site Sydney Olympic Park with flexibility to WFH 1 day per week
About the Role
Reporting to the SEIT Manager, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining system architectures throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and requirements definition through to integration, verification, customer acceptance and ongoing support.
You will work closely with engineering teams, project managers, customers, suppliers and test organisations to ensure solutions meet performance, compliance and stakeholder requirements. This role combines technical leadership, systems engineering expertise and customer engagement, making it ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges in a collaborative environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Interpret customer, regulatory and operational requirements to establish system baselines and specifications.
- Develop and maintain solution architectures through functional decomposition and system design activities.
- Lead systems engineering activities across the lifecycle, including requirements management, architecture development, integration and verification.
- Manage technical risks and identify mitigation strategies.
- Develop and maintain key engineering artefacts including requirements specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), integration plans, test procedures and technical reports.
- Coordinate verification and validation (V&V) activities, including Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), accreditation testing and customer acceptance activities.
- Work with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure alignment of technical solutions and engineering outputs.
- Support change management processes, requirements traceability and configuration control.
- Provide technical support to operational improvement, product sustainment and equipment realisation initiatives.
About You
You are a structured and analytical engineering professional who can see both the detail and the bigger picture. You enjoy collaborating across disciplines and are comfortable engaging with customers, suppliers and technical teams.
You'll bring:
- Degree qualifications in Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' experience developing, integrating and delivering complex systems or products.
- Strong understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle and application of systems engineering principles.
- Experience in requirements development, architecture design and verification & validation activities.
- Experience working with requirements management and configuration management tools such as Polarion, DOORS or similar.
- Knowledge of ISO 15288 or equivalent systems engineering frameworks.
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- Eligibility to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance (Australian Citizenship required).
