Systems Engineer
Summary
Systems Engineer at Lithios supporting capital projects for its Advanced Lithium Extraction (ALE) technology, leading systems engineering from design through commissioning and startup while coordinating EPC contractors and multidisciplinary teams. Requires 5+ years on complex industrial/process projects; a mechanical engineering background is preferred.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support the development and execution of capital projects featuring Lithios’ Advanced Lithium Extraction (ALE).
The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of engineering experience with a strong track record on complex projects. A Mechanical Engineering background is preferred, though other relevant engineering disciplines will be considered.
As a member of the Engineering Team, you will work closely with EPC contractors, technology providers, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure that projects are technically sound, well integrated, and executed to the required standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead systems engineering activities from concept and design through construction, commissioning, and startup.
- Develop and review system and subsystem requirements, equipment specifications, datasheets, design criteria, and other technical documentation.
- Maintain an understanding of the entire process flowsheet, including pre and post treatment of feedstock, extraction, water management, and reagents/utilities.
- Serve as a key technical interface to EPCs, reviewing deliverables, challenging assumptions, and ensuring alignment with project requirements.
- Coordinate across process, mechanical, electrical, controls, civil, and other engineering disciplines to ensure proper system integration.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, FATs, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other project team members.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years experience, including significant experience with projects of similarly complex, multidisciplinary industrial or process facilities.
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; other relevant engineering disciplines considered.
- Experience working with contractors and/or engineering consultants is a plus.
- Exceptional attention to detail, particularly with specifications, datasheets, drawings, calculations, and complex engineering packages.
- Ability to identify issues and inconsistencies that others may overlook
- Strong technical communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage complexity, work across disciplines, and drive technical issues to resolution.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a systems thinker who is equally comfortable in the details. You can understand the overall objectives of a complex facility while also getting into the weeds of an equipment specification, vendor packages, or P&ID.
You are comfortable working with partner companies from the Owner's perspective- able to critically review engineering work, challenge assumptions, and ensure the final design meets the project's technical, operational, and commercial objectives.
Experience with DLE or lithium processing is valuable, but direct DLE experience is not required. We are particularly interested in engineers who have demonstrated the ability to understand and execute projects involving complex process technologies.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary.
- Equity in the company.
- A 401(k) plan with employer matching.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- 20 days of paid time off and 10 days of paid sick time off, in addition to all federal holidays and all days between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
- Eight weeks of paid parental leave, with the option to extend for an additional four weeks of unpaid leave.
- Flexible bereavement leave policy, including time off for the loss of a pet.
- Coverage of up to $5,000 in eligible moving expenses*.
- Company-supported opportunities in career development as well as the opportunity to be a leader in a rapidly growing organization.
- A fun, diverse, and talented team focused on making the biggest impact possible on the lithium industry.
*Eligible moving expenses include moving household goods and personal effects, employee travel and lodging, packing/unpacking services
