We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer to join the team with Nexus, a teammate company!

The Systems Engineer will:

  • Review system architectures, hardware requirements, designs, assembly procedures, test plans, procedures and data of ATCS for Commercial vehicles and US Deorbit Vehicle (USDV) modules to ensure approaches are sound, component/material selection is appropriate for the intended usage, and suitable for the proposed application.

  • Review nonconformances and anomaly resolution reports.

  • Conduct independent reviews of mission data and certification products

  • Review and provide input to system and sub-system level requirements and other Gateway Program USDV documents.

  • Provide recommendations for program acceptance of requirements verification, testing, and hazards.

  • Review and evaluate qualification test reports and resolution of anomalies identified in certification of the ATCS system for the spacecraft.

  • Assess any potential impacts to design modifications which would lead into a delta qualification effort.

  • Review the Phase III hazard reports and associated verification products.

  • Review many of the certification products prior to the future test flights for the spacecraft including Qualification Reports, Verification Events (VEs), Verification Completion Notices, Final Verification Review (FVRs), etc

  • Investigate technology development opportunities and perform infusion planning.

  • Perform and review system level analyses that will influence the overall design and performance.

  • Review and provide input to system and sub-system level requirements and other Commercial Crew Office (CCO) program documents.

  • Develop ATCS requirements verification plan

  • Investigate technology development opportunities and perform infusion planning.

  • Develop analysis package presentations.

  • Manage heat load vs. heat rejection matrix.

  • Develop integrated module/TCS schematics

  • Maintain the TCS Concept of Operations (ConOps).

  • Provide written and oral statuses in the form of presentations or reports and represent the Thermal Systems Manager at program and engineer.

  • Interface with international partners and providers for integrated solutions of ATCS

  • Review commercial providers hardware development activities and advise Thermal ATCS System Manager on any areas of concern

  • Travel as required in support of technical reviews, testing and exchanges.

  • Prepare console support products, review flight products changes, and support system operations through console support

  • Additional duties as required

Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and normally possess 5- 10 years of related experience. License and certification may be required.

  • Experience in the design, assembly, testing, certification, and operation of space ATCS systems and components, which may include but not be limited to pumps and valves, coolant loops, cold plates, heat exchangers, sublimators, radiators, and heat exchangers during pre-launch, flight, and post-landing phases.

  • Experience coordinating space ATCS systems requirements verification and validation between multiple organizations.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.

  • Basic knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, testing, and office software

Requisition Preferences:

  • ​Familiar with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures.

  • The ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.

  • Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle process.
