Salary: $110,000 – $125,000 per year

Systems Engineer — Ucomm Group (MSP) — St Leonards, NSW

The role

We're a Sydney-based Managed Service Provider supporting multi-site corporate and professional organisations across Australia. We cover IT, UC and AV, from day-to-day support through to infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, unified communications and meeting room technology.

We're small, which means engineers work directly with clients, own their outcomes, and get a real say in how things are done. We're looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to take ownership of a portfolio of client environments and help shape our Microsoft cloud and security practice.

You'll report directly to the directors.

Who this suits

Someone who's technically strong and still likes doing the work. You'll lead projects and act as the escalation point for complex issues — and you'll also pick up tickets, because that's how we all stay close to our clients' environments. If you're looking for a role where you hand everything down to someone junior, this isn't it.

You'll be on client sites regularly. A lot of what makes this work is face-to-face. With clients and with the team. So while we're flexible on hybrid days when you need them, this isn't a remote role. We pay a mileage allowance for client travel.

What you'll be doing

  • Owning a portfolio of client environments and building genuine relationships with the people in them

  • Designing, implementing and supporting Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Azure, AVD, SharePoint Online, Teams and Teams Calling

  • Delivering infrastructure, cloud, security and improvement projects end to end

  • Managing security platforms including Huntress EDR/ITDR, Airlock Digital and Microsoft Defender

  • Administering NinjaOne, Acronis, Freshdesk and our other managed services tooling

  • Acting as escalation point for complex issues — and handling BAU support alongside the rest of the team

  • Spotting opportunities to improve security, reliability and user experience before clients have to ask

  • Supporting Teams Calling, Teams Rooms and workplace collaboration technology

  • Contributing to technical standards and documentation, and mentoring junior engineers

What you'll need

  • 5+ years in a Systems Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer or similar role

  • Strong Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Azure and AVD experience

  • Intune, Conditional Access and modern identity management

  • Solid networking — DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs, wireless, firewalls

  • Windows Server and Active Directory experience

  • Current Australian driver's licence and full working rights in Australia

Nice to have

  • MSP experience

  • Security platforms — Huntress, Airlock Digital, Microsoft Defender or similar

  • RMM and backup platforms — NinjaOne, Acronis or equivalent

  • Teams Calling, Cisco CUCM or 3CX administration: Auto Attendants, Call Queues, Direct Routing, Operator Connect

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms, video conferencing and AV integration

If you've got most of the must-haves and you're keen to pick up the rest, apply anyway.

What we offer

  • Direct line to the directors — decisions get made quickly and you'll be part of them

  • A real say in shaping our Microsoft cloud and security practice

  • Paid certification exams and time set aside during work hours to study

  • Mileage allowance for client travel

  • Flexibility on hybrid days when you need them

  • Breadth you won't get at a product-specific shop — IT, cloud, security, UC and AV

  • St Leonards office, close to public transport

  • Regular team lunches
