Systems Engineer
Timaru, (relocation required)
$80,000 to $100,000

A Team That Does Technology Differently
This isn’t your average MSP. It’s a tight-knit team of people who love what they do, take pride in their work, and show up every day to make technology work harder for the businesses that depend on it. Relationships sit at the heart of everything: with diverse clients, with colleagues, and with the communities they serve.
For the right person, this is more than a job. It’s a place to grow and make a real difference.

The Role
The team is looking for a Systems Engineer based in Timaru who brings good technical ability and the communication skills to match. This is a client-facing role that goes well beyond the helpdesk. You will be allocated your own clients and work directly alongside local businesses, helping them with technology decisions and delivering solutions that drive real business outcomes. It suits someone with solid foundations who wants to step up and grow with support.

  • Be the person clients call. Support businesses across Timaru and South Canterbury, from first-line fixes through to the tricky level 3 problems, and help them make technology work for their goals.

  • Build the backbone. Set up and manage the networks businesses run on, including routers, switches, firewalls and VPNs.

  • Keep things moving forward. Plan and carry out network upgrades across different client environments, and see each one through.

  • Solve the problems that matter. Track down what’s slowing a business down or putting it at risk, and fix it properly so it stays fixed.

  • Make tech make sense. Explain what’s going on and what to do next in plain language, whether you’re talking to a dental practice, a manufacturer or a hospitality owner.

  • Earn trust. Be the engineer clients ask for by name, because you turn up, follow through and communicate well.

  • Keep it tidy. Write clear documentation and keep everyone in the loop, inside the team and with clients.

  • Stay calm when it counts. When something breaks at a bad time, you’re the steady voice that gets it sorted.

Who They’re Looking For

  • 2+ Systems Engineer (or in a similar role), with a track record of keeping client environments running well

  • Hands-on Microsoft 365, desktop and server skills, the everyday tools your clients depend on

  • Real networking experience: you’ve configured and managed routers, managed switches, firewalls and VPNs, and you know how to do it properly

  • A solid grasp of network security, and the instinct to build things the right way from the start

  • Familiarity with Fortinet, Cisco, Meraki or similar. Strong exposure is plenty, because deep expertise isn’t expected

  • Some exposure to virtualisation and cloud, with the curiosity to go further

  • The knack for plain English: you can explain a complex issue so a business owner understands what it means and what to do next

  • A calm head when things get busy, and the confidence to reassure a client when it matters

  • A full NZ driver’s licence, valid NZ work rights, and a readiness to make Timaru home

What’s On Offer

  • Training and professional development to help you grow

  • A collaborative, supportive team culture built on trust and good humour

  • A wellbeing programme that takes employee health seriously

  • Social club activities and a team that knows how to wind down on a Friday

Not ticking every box? Good. This team would rather grow the right person than hire a perfect CV. If you have strong foundations and the drive to learn, they’ll back you with the training to get you there.
