For our Client we are looking for a:

Systems Integration Software Engineer (m/f)

Location: Rijeka

We are looking for a creative and talented Software Engineer to join Zenitel’s Customer Integration Team (CIT), developing and maintaining cross-platform distributed systems used in flagship deployments across the transport, security, and communications sectors.

The role focuses on building robust GUI and control system software across the full development lifecycle, from design and implementation to testing and release. The successful candidate will work in a close-knit team, taking ownership of technical solutions and contributing to a complex codebase where quality, reliability, and innovation are highly valued.

AI coding assistants are part of Zenitel’s day-to-day development process; so, strong technical judgement, the ability to work with unfamiliar code, and a commitment to reviewing, testing, and taking ownership of the software they deliver are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain GUI and control system software based on a Qt5 cross-platform architecture using C++14/17
• Take ownership of software development projects and deliver well-scoped tasks in line with team plans and project goals
• Identify and implement appropriate solutions to ambiguous or open-ended technical problems
• Write robust, reusable, efficient, and maintainable code with a strong focus on quality and testability
• Use AI coding assistants effectively as part of everyday development, while reviewing, testing, and taking ownership of the resulting code
• Participate actively in code reviews and design discussions, ensuring engineering standards and best practices are maintained
• Contribute to project planning and help define clear deliverables and technical tasks
• Extend, improve, and document shared modules and software libraries
• Debug issues on live systems by forming hypotheses, investigating root causes, and implementing appropriate solutions
• Work collaboratively in an Agile/Scrum environment, contributing to sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives
• Maintain awareness of customer needs and contribute to technical decisions in cooperation with product stakeholders

Requirements:

• Strong knowledge of modern C++ with solid software design skills, including the ability to read and critically review existing code
• Proven experience developing GUIs and applications using the Qt5 framework
• Good working knowledge of Linux as both a development and target platform
• Demonstrable debugging skills, including the ability to investigate issues on live systems and identify root causes
• Experience with Git in a collaborative development environment
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
• Understanding of asynchronous RPC concepts
• Ability to work independently, make technical decisions, take ownership of tasks, and drive issues to resolution
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written

Bonus Points:

• Knowledge of VoIP/telephony technologies such as Asterisk, SIP, or PCM
• Experience with network analysis tools such as Wireshark
• Knowledge of XMPP
• Familiarity with test-driven development (TDD)
• Experience with Ubuntu/Debian Linux systems
• Familiarity with GitLab, including CI/CD pipelines and Ansible-based remote deployment
• Knowledge of SQL-based relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
• Experience with containerization and virtualization technologies such as Podman, VirtualBox, or libvirt
• Basic knowledge of web technologies such as RESTful interfaces and WebSockets
• Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Jira, GitLab, Confluence, Teams, or Slack
