Description
We are seeking a Systems Support Engineer to support the server turnups process. In this role, you will be the primary operational point of contact for triaging and resolving issues during software and hardware turnups. You will monitor incoming tickets, diagnose software-related deployment bottlenecks, and collaborate with hardware and networking teams to ensure smooth turnup workflows.
The ideal candidate possesses a mix of system administration, basic networking, and hardware troubleshooting knowledge, with a strong background in Linux environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Turnup Issue Triage: Monitor, investigate, and manage incoming tickets generated during the hardware and software bootstrapping phases.
- Software Diagnosis: Investigate, diagnose, and resolve software-related deployment failures, containerization glitches, or configuration issues (e.g., DHCP, PXE boot, network services).
- Hardware & Firmware Escalation: Identify issues rooted in faulty hardware, outdated firmware, or physical networking constraints, and efficiently route/escalate them to the appropriate hardware engineering or data center technician teams.
- Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Update runbooks, diagnostic playbooks, and error resolution guides to streamline future turnups.
- Collaboration: Act as the bridge between software development, DevOps, and hardware operations teams to drive rapid resolution of blockers.
Required Qualifications:
- Linux/OS Administration: Strong proficiency navigating, troubleshooting, and diagnosing issues in Linux environments.
- Networking Fundamentals: Good understanding of IP networking, DNS, DHCP (DHCPv4/DHCPv6), and network diagnostics.
- Hardware & Firmware Knowledge: Familiarity with server components, BMCs (Baseboard Management Controllers), BIOS, and basic physical infrastructure (NICs, switches).
- Ticketing & Tracking Systems: Experience using ticket systems to manage, escalate, and organize operational tasks.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to distinguish between software/configuration issues and physical hardware failures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bootstrap/Deployment Experience: Experience with netboot/PXE installation processes, or unattended server installation setups.
- Containerization & Orchestration: Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or workflow orchestration tools.
- Automation/Scripting: Ability to write or interpret basic scripts (Bash, Python) to assist with automated diagnostics.
- DCIM/IPAM Tools: Prior experience working with tools like NetBox or other DCIM/Inventory management systems.
