Systems Support Engineer

Salary: $62,284–$70k, pro rata $33,011–$37,100 for 20 hrs

Love technology, solving problems and figuring out how things work?

Join Volunteer Service Abroad Te Tūao Tāwāhi (VSA) as our Systems Support Engineer and help keep our people, systems and technology working smoothly.

This is a hands-on role covering IT support, Microsoft 365, systems administration and automation, with opportunities to troubleshoot problems, improve systems and find smarter ways of doing things.

At 20 hours per week with genuine flexibility, this role could work well around study, other commitments or simply the life you want outside work.

Who are we?

VSA is Aotearoa New Zealand's largest and most experienced volunteering agency working within international development. We connect skilled volunteers with organisations and communities across the Pacific, sharing skills, knowledge and experience to support locally identified aspirations and create sustainable change.

Our purpose is Te hono tangata, Te huringa ora, Connecting people, Transforming lives. We are guided by manaakitanga, respectful partnerships, cross-cultural learning and our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

We believe a world of thriving communities starts with a strong, supportive workplace. At VSA, we work, learn and understand together, valuing each other's contribution and bringing the spirit of volunteering to everything we do.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager Information and Technology, you'll be part of a small team supporting VSA's technology environment and the people who use it.

You'll provide day-to-day technical support, while also getting involved in automation, systems improvement and IT projects.

We're looking for someone who is genuinely interested in technology and enjoys figuring things out independently.

As our IT Manager puts it:

"I'm looking for someone who is genuinely interested in technology, can think for themselves and will have a go at solving a problem before asking for help."

If that sounds like you, you'll have plenty to get stuck into.

You'll bring:

  • A genuine interest in technology and curiosity about how things work.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate issues independently.

  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 and Windows environments.

  • Experience providing first or second-level technical support.

  • Some experience with PowerShell, Power Automate, scripting or automation, or a willingness to learn.

  • The ability to explain technical issues clearly to people who aren't technical.

  • Initiative, organisation and a practical "I'll figure it out" approach.

Why join VSA?

20 hours. Flexible hours. Meaningful work.

You'll have the flexibility to shape your working hours around your life, while working across a broad range of technology and contributing to work that supports VSA's teams across Aotearoa and the Pacific.

Your work will help keep our teams connected, our systems working and our people able to focus on what matters, supporting communities and creating positive change across the Pacific and beyond.

You'll also have the opportunity to take ownership, develop your technical skills and make a real difference to how we work.

You'll also enjoy:

  • The chance to work for an internationally focused organisation and collaborate with people across the Pacific and Aotearoa.

  • Employer-funded professional development opportunities.

  • The opportunity to work temporarily from overseas, where the arrangement meets VSA's requirements.

  • Genuine access to senior leaders and the opportunity to contribute your ideas.

  • The chance to get involved in projects and work beyond your immediate role.

  • One paid day each year to volunteer or contribute to your community.

  • Birthday leave, because your birthday should be your day.

  • Hybrid working, with up to two days a week from home.

  • Flexible start and finish times to help you make work work for you.

  • Five weeks of annual leave.
