Position Overview
Our client, the Government Services Integration Cluster, is seeking an experienced Systems Testing/QA Specialist – Intermediate to support enterprise-level application testing and quality assurance initiatives.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, designing, executing, documenting, and supporting various testing activities across complex IT systems. The role requires strong hands-on experience in manual and automated testing, API testing, performance testing, database validation, defect management, test automation, and AODA accessibility compliance.
The successful candidate will work closely with developers, business analysts, project managers, testing leads, IT leads, and other technical and functional stakeholders throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and contribute to testing strategies, test plans, test cases, test scripts, test data, and test reports.
  • Plan, organize, and execute testing efforts for enterprise-level systems across both GUI and non-GUI environments.
  • Perform functional, integration, system, regression, acceptance, and non-functional testing.
  • Support and participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities.
  • Validate that applications and systems perform as expected under various conditions.
  • Execute systems integration, specialized, stress, load, and performance testing.
  • Identify, document, prioritize, and track software defects using tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, ALM, Bugzilla, TestRail, or Zephyr.
  • Work closely with developers and technical teams to reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve defects.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts using tools/frameworks such as Selenium, Postman, Cypress, Micro Focus/OpenText UFT, TestComplete, or similar.
  • Perform API testing using Postman or comparable tools.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Execute performance, stress, and load testing using JMeter, LoadRunner, or similar tools.
  • Analyze performance results, identify bottlenecks, and assess system scalability.
  • Perform backend and database validation using SQL and/or Oracle.
  • Develop and manage robust test data strategies, including creation of realistic test data and management of test data environments.
  • Validate data integrity, consistency, and accuracy across applications, databases, and system components.
  • Perform data migration and transformation testing where required.
  • Conduct basic security testing and collaborate with security specialists for more advanced security and penetration testing activities.
  • Apply knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements and related accessibility standards.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, developers, project managers, testing leads, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and related activities.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of test execution, test coverage, defects, results, and quality metrics.
  • Provide input into user manuals, release documentation, and release notes.
  • Ensure QA and testing activities follow applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and OPS quality assurance practices.

Mandatory Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
Software Testing & QA
  • 2+ years of experience in software testing within enterprise-level IT environments.
  • Hands-on experience with both manual testing and automated testing tools/frameworks.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience with Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Experience planning, organizing, and implementing testing activities.
  • Experience with functional, non-functional, system, integration, regression, and acceptance testing.
  • Experience supporting and participating in User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Experience creating and maintaining:
    • Test strategies
    • Test plans
    • Test cases
    • Test scripts
    • Test data
    • Test execution reports
    • Test results/documentation
  • Strong understanding of QA principles, practices, tools, and structured testing methodologies.
  • Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle.
AODA / Accessibility – Mandatory
  • Extensive experience with AODA testing and compliance.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and related regulations and standards.
Test Automation – Mandatory
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing tools/frameworks such as:
    • Selenium
    • Postman
    • Cypress
    • Micro Focus/OpenText UFT
    • TestComplete
    • or equivalent tools.
  • Experience developing and maintaining automated test scripts and automated test cases.
  • Experience with API testing, preferably using Postman or equivalent tools.
Performance Testing – Mandatory
  • Hands-on experience with performance testing tools such as:
    • JMeter
    • LoadRunner
    • or similar.
  • Experience conducting load, stress, and performance testing.
  • Ability to analyze performance results, identify bottlenecks, and assess system scalability.
Defect Management – Mandatory
  • Experience identifying, documenting, tracking, and managing software defects using tools such as:
    • JIRA
    • Azure DevOps
    • ALM
    • Bugzilla
    • TestRail
    • Zephyr
    • or similar.
Database / Backend Testing – Mandatory
  • Strong understanding of databases, including SQL and/or Oracle.
  • Demonstrated ability to write SQL queries for data validation and backend testing.
  • Experience validating data integrity, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Experience with data migration and transformation testing is required where applicable.
Cloud & DevOps – Mandatory
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with integration/version-control tools such as:
    • Jenkins
    • Git
    • GitLab
    • or equivalent.
Security Testing
  • Experience conducting basic security testing.
  • Ability to collaborate with security specialists for deeper security and penetration testing activities.
Additional Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of at least one programming or scripting language, such as:
    • Python
    • JavaScript
    • Bash
    • Java
    • or equivalent.
  • Experience using CASE tools and data query tools to support test case development.
  • Knowledge of automated testing tools and version-control systems.
  • Understanding of testing methods within object-oriented environments.
  • Experience testing Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications is an asset.
  • Experience with information retrieval packages is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Information Management principles, concepts, policies, and practices is an asset.

  • Experience working within the Ontario Public Service (OPS) environment is an asset.

  • Previous experience delivering QA/testing services for government or other public-sector organizations is highly desirable.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for an Intermediate QA/Test Specialist who combines strong hands-on testing expertise with practical automation, API, database, performance, and accessibility testing experience.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of testing complex enterprise applications, creating comprehensive test documentation, identifying and managing defects, validating backend data, developing automated test scripts, and working collaboratively within Agile project teams.
AODA testing/compliance, Selenium or Postman, performance testing with JMeter/LoadRunner, and JIRA/Azure DevOps experience are key differentiators and should be clearly demonstrated on the resume.
