Summary
Contract Intermediate QA/System Testing Specialist role, fully onsite in Toronto, supporting enterprise application testing for a Government of Ontario client. Day to day involves manual and automated functional, API, performance, database, security and AODA accessibility testing using tools like Selenium, Postman, JMeter, JIRA/Azure DevOps, and SQL/Oracle within Agile delivery.
- Provide advice on testing strategies, test plans, testing tools, test approaches, and testing resources.
- Plan, organize, and execute testing activities for enterprise-level systems in both GUI and non-GUI environments.
- Develop and maintain test strategies, test plans, test cases, test scripts, test data, test reports, and quality metrics.
- Execute functional, integration, system, regression, acceptance, performance, stress, load, and other specialized testing.
- Support and participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities.
- Validate application functionality and ensure systems behave as expected under various conditions.
- Identify, document, prioritize, and track software defects using tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, ALM, Bugzilla, TestRail, or Zephyr.
- Work closely with developers and technical teams to reproduce, investigate, and resolve defects.
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts using tools such as Selenium, OpenText UFT/Micro Focus, TestComplete, or Postman.
- Perform API testing using tools such as Postman or similar technologies.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Develop and execute performance test scripts using JMeter, LoadRunner, or similar tools and analyze performance bottlenecks and scalability.
- Perform backend and database testing using SQL and Oracle.
- Validate data integrity, consistency, and accuracy across applications, systems, and databases.
- Perform data migration and transformation testing where required.
- Develop and manage robust test data strategies, including realistic test data generation, data privacy considerations, and test environment management.
- Conduct basic security testing and collaborate with security specialists on advanced security or penetration testing activities.
- Ensure applications meet Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements and related accessibility standards.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, developers, Project Managers, IT Leads, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Maintain detailed documentation of test results, test coverage, defects, and quality metrics.
- Provide testing input for user manuals, release notes, and implementation documentation.
- Ensure QA and testing processes comply with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and Ontario Public Service (OPS) QA standards and practices.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in software testing within enterprise-level IT environments.
- Hands-on experience with both manual testing and automated testing tools/frameworks.
- Strong understanding and practical experience with Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall methodologies.
- Extensive experience with AODA testing and accessibility compliance.
- Experience developing and maintaining test strategies, test plans, test cases, test scripts, test data, and test reports.
- Experience with test automation tools such as Selenium or Postman for API testing.
- Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, or equivalent.
- Experience with defect tracking and test management tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, ALM, Bugzilla, TestRail, or Zephyr.
- Proven experience performing end-to-end testing of complex systems, ensuring coverage of functional and non-functional requirements.
- Knowledge of QA compliance standards and security testing best practices.
- Experience executing functional, non-functional, system, integration, regression, and acceptance testing.
- Experience supporting UAT and working with business stakeholders during acceptance activities.
- Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC).
- Strong experience with databases and data validation, particularly SQL and Oracle.
- Experience performing backend/database testing and data validation.
- Knowledge of cloud technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and integration/development tools such as Jenkins, Git, or GitLab.
- Understanding of scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Bash for test automation or test data preparation.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and tools.
- Ability to write queries to validate data and perform backend testing.
