Systems Testing/QA Specialist – Senior
Summary
Senior QA contractor supporting the Ontario government's OASIS agricultural soil data platform: planning and executing tests for a cloud-based Java web app and an Esri GIS field app, writing test plans/cases/scripts, managing defects, and performing AODA accessibility testing using Azure DevOps and Postman. Hybrid role, 2 days onsite in Toronto or Guelph.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute comprehensive quality assurance and software testing activities throughout the SDLC.
- Perform testing within Agile, Hybrid, and Waterfall SDLC environments.
- Develop and maintain test strategies, test plans, test cases, test scripts, test execution documentation, and testing reports.
- Conduct hands-on testing of cloud-based applications developed using Java technologies.

- Java
- JSON
- RESTful Web Services
- HTML5
- Identify, document, track, prioritize, and manage software defects throughout the testing lifecycle.
- Validate functional and technical requirements to ensure that developed solutions meet business and technical expectations.
- Support development teams with debugging and troubleshooting activities.
- Assess software quality, functionality, usability, and reliability and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Conduct accessibility testing in compliance with AODA and utilize appropriate accessibility testing tools.
- Utilize QA and testing tools including Azure DevOps and Postman.
- Validate integrations involving APIs and other application services.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, business analysts, business stakeholders, and project teams throughout the testing lifecycle.
- Ensure testing activities align with applicable OPS and I&ITS policies, standards, directives, governance, privacy, security, and confidentiality requirements.
- Manage multiple testing priorities and deliverables within established project timelines and milestones.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience performing quality assurance and software testing activities.
- Experience working across Agile, Hybrid, and Waterfall SDLC methodologies.
- Hands-on experience testing cloud-based applications developed using Java technologies.
- Experience testing and validating JSON, RESTful Web Services, and HTML5 applications/components.

- Testing/QA Reports and other testing artifacts
- Demonstrated experience identifying, documenting, tracking, managing, and reporting software defects throughout the complete testing lifecycle.
- Experience validating business and technical requirements.
- Ability to support debugging and troubleshooting activities.
- Experience contributing to overall software quality, functionality, and usability.
- Hands-on experience conducting accessibility testing in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
- Experience using accessibility testing tools.
- Working knowledge and hands-on experience with QA/testing tools, including:
- Azure DevOps
- Postman
- Demonstrated understanding of privacy, security, confidentiality, and information-management requirements.
- Experience working in accordance with Ontario Public Service (OPS) and Information & Information Technology Strategy (I&ITS) policies, standards, directives, and governance requirements.
- Experience using approved AI-assisted QA and software testing tools to improve testing effectiveness, productivity, quality, and delivery outcomes.
- Experience testing applications or information systems supporting:
- Agricultural operations
- Environmental programs
- Soil management solutions
- Experience testing Esri ArcGIS and Survey123 applications and related geospatial technologies.
- Experience validating integrations involving RESTful APIs, geospatial services, and mapping applications.
- Demonstrated experience delivering QA services within Agile environments, including adapting testing approaches to organizational processes, governance requirements, and delivery objectives.
