Tableau to Power BI Senior Migration Specialist

About the Role

Our company is seeking a skilled Senior Power BI Migration Specialist to join our team. The main responsibility of this role is to migrate and optimize existing Tableau dashboards into Power BI, ensuring seamless transitions, improved performance, and accurate translation of business logic. The specialist will also be responsible for developing new Power BI dashboards based on customer requirements.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Experience: 3–5 years of experience working with Power BI and Tableau, preferably focused on dashboard migration and data analytics.
• Proven experience in data modeling and dashboard development in both Tableau and Power BI.
• Strong proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M Language), and VertiPaq optimization.
• Strong knowledge of Star Schema data modeling and complex relationship management.
• Experience with Power BI Service, semantic models, workspace management, and governance.
• Ability to analyze and translate complex Tableau logic, including LOD expressions, calculated fields, and joins, into Power BI/DAX equivalents.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on data quality and performance optimization.

Technical Skills

Data Modeling & Architecture

• Strong experience designing efficient Star Schema models.
• Understanding of cardinality and One-to-Many / Many-to-Many relationships.
• Ability to configure and troubleshoot cross-filter directions and relationship issues.

DAX & Advanced Calculations

• Strong understanding of row context vs. filter context.
• Advanced DAX skills using functions such as CALCULATE, FILTER, RELATED, and RELATEDTABLE.
• Experience with Time Intelligence, including YoY, YTD, rolling averages, and cumulative calculations.
• Ability to translate Tableau LOD expressions and calculated fields into DAX.

ETL & Data Preparation

• Strong experience with Power Query and M Language.
• Experience with data cleaning, transformation, merging, appending, and custom columns.
• Understanding of Query Folding and how to optimize transformations at the source level.
• Experience troubleshooting data quality issues such as duplicates, whitespace, and case sensitivity.

Performance Optimization

• Experience using Performance Analyzer, DAX Studio, and VertiPaq tools to identify and resolve performance issues.
• Understanding of Import, DirectQuery, and Composite models.
• Ability to optimize Power BI solutions when working with large or high-latency data sources.

Data Sources & Connectivity

• Experience working with SQL and Databricks is preferred.
• Understanding of different Power BI connectivity modes and their performance implications.

Power BI Service & Governance

• Experience publishing and managing shared semantic models in Power BI Service.
• Experience managing refresh schedules, workspaces, and semantic model governance.
• Knowledge of shared or certified datasets / "Golden Datasets" is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

• Migrate existing Tableau dashboards and reports to Power BI while maintaining business logic and data accuracy.
• Translate Tableau LOD expressions, calculated fields, joins, and other logic into equivalent DAX and Power Query solutions.
• Design and implement efficient Star Schema data models.
• Develop advanced DAX measures and calculations.
• Perform ETL and data transformation using Power Query / M Language.
• Identify and resolve data quality and relationship issues.
• Analyze and optimize report and model performance using Performance Analyzer, DAX Studio, and VertiPaq tools.
• Determine the appropriate use of Import, DirectQuery, and Composite models based on business and technical requirements.
• Create new Power BI dashboards based on customer requirements.
• Publish and maintain shared semantic models in Power BI Service.
• Support workspace, refresh, and semantic model governance.
• Collaborate with customers and internal teams to understand requirements and deliver scalable, high-performance Power BI solutions.
