Tax Analyst
Summary
The Tax Analyst supports the Tax Department at FirstEnergy by assisting with tax planning, compliance, and accounting, as well as preparing financial reports and budgets. This onsite role requires strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial software like Excel and SAP to support business unit operations.

About the Opportunity
This is an open position within FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.
The reporting location for this onsite position is FirstEnergy’s corporate headquarters, located at 341 White Pond Drive, Akron, OH 44320.
This Analyst position reports to the Director of Tax Planning and is expected to support multiple functions within the Tax Department, including tax planning and business unit support, tax accounting, and tax compliance. This onsite position is based at the Corporate Office in Akron, Ohio.
Responsibilities include:
- Analyzing and modeling the tax impacts of business transactions and changes in tax laws and regulations in collaboration with Accounting, Finance, Regulatory, and operational teams
- Performing various accounting and analytical tasks to support calculation of the income tax provision, including preparing journal entries for monthly and quarterly closing and documentation relating to financial reporting and internal control functions, as needed
- Compiling and analyzing data necessary to support the preparation and filing of federal and state income and non-income tax returns, as needed
- Compiling and analyzing data necessary to support the preparation and filing of various regulatory reports and/or rate cases
- Supporting financial forecasts by preparing temporary and permanent book-tax differences impacting segment and consolidated taxable income and effective tax rates, and effectively communicating results
- Reconciling various tax accounts as needed

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or comparable degree with Accounting minor or specialization, required
- Minimum 0-2 years’ work experience required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint), experience with SAP preferred but not required, and ability to learn other company/industry specific applications
- Ability to follow established practices, procedures, and instructions, and produce accurate and timely work product
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to shifting priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently on special assignments as directed
