Tax Compliance Analyst

Position supports the Tax Director with university tax compliance needs. The role requires the ability to work independently across various tax reporting and university accounting systems, as well as the ability to interpret and apply IRS tax code, Treasury regulations, and other relevant guidance. The position collaborates with stakeholders across multiple campus departments on unrelated business income tax (UBIT), sales and use tax, employee compensation, nonresident alien tax compliance, scholarships, fellowships, grants, and other higher education tax issues to facilitate institutional compliance and mitigate tax-related risk. Potential to gain qualifying experience for FL CPA Licensure.

-Gathers information, prepares initial research, outlines implications/ drafts recommendations, and prepares documentation and/or tax filings related to various university transactions, including but not limited to:

  • Unrelated business income tax,
  • Sales tax,
  • Non-resident alien,
  • Independent contractor vs employee determinations,
  • Scholarship/fellowships vs compensation and other grant related payment classifications.
  • Prepares tax training guidance and participates in presentations for university departments as needed.

-Attends university tax conferences and tax peer group meetings; participates in group email and meeting discussions.

-Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Excel and Microsoft Office products.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Accounting, tax specialization with a CPA. 1-2 years university tax or comparable public accounting/ other corporate tax experience.

Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.

• SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements
• A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:
• (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
• (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
• (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
• (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
• (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
• Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
• Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
