Pay: $145,000.00 - $195,000.00 per year

Location:

Sacramento, CA with a flexible hybrid schedule that allows attorneys to work remotely up to two days per week.

Note:

Must have an active California Bar license and at least 1 year of substantive tax controversy experience. An LL.M. in Tax or tax concentration is preferred but not required.

Job Description

  • Represent clients in federal, state, and local tax controversies and disputes.
  • Handle IRS and state tax audits, administrative appeals, refund claims, and Tax Court proceedings.
  • Respond to agency inquiries and develop effective controversy strategies.
  • Draft protests, petitions, briefs, motions, and other advocacy materials.
  • Conduct legal research and analyze financial records, tax issues, and transactional documents.
  • Participate in administrative hearings, negotiations, and tax litigation.
  • Advise closely held businesses, partnerships, individuals, estates, trusts, and tax-exempt organizations.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across tax, litigation, corporate, real estate, and trusts and estates practices.

Qualifications

  • Active California Bar admission.
  • 1+ year of tax controversy and litigation experience.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • LL.M. in Tax or tax concentration from an ABA accredited law school preferred, but not required.
