Tax Manager
About the Firm
We are representing a boutique, high-touch RIA based in Louisville, Kentucky, built around one simple premise: clients come first, always. The firm serves a sophisticated client base — primarily retired and current business owners and executives — with a level of service that goes well beyond portfolio management. Leadership is hands-on, reviews happen three times a year, and the office itself is modern, custom-designed, and built to make coming to work something people actually look forward to. The culture is collaborative, tight-knit, and genuinely people-first.
The firm is now building out an in-house tax practice designed to integrate seamlessly with their wealth management business. The goal is simple: give clients one cohesive, high-end experience where financial planning and tax strategy move together in lockstep. They got tired of referring business to outside CPAs and not getting the service or reciprocity their clients deserved — so they're building it themselves, the right way.
About the Role
This is a ground-floor opportunity — not a compliance grind. The firm is bringing in a Tax Manager to serve as the founding member of their tax practice, supported by a seasoned CPA who will be on-site and involved as the practice comes together. That means you're not starting from scratch or figuring it out alone. There's existing client flow, an experienced resource alongside you, and a clear path to inheriting a meaningful book of business as that senior CPA transitions out over the next few years.
The client base includes founders, executives, and retirees with 8 and 9-figure estates, foundations, trusts, multi-entity structures, real estate holdings, deferred compensation, RSUs, nonqualified stock options, and more. Here's a sample of the kind of work you'd actually be doing:
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary tax resource for a high-net-worth client base across individual, partnership, S-corp, trust, and estate return types
Partner directly with wealth advisors on proactive tax planning — retirement income sequencing, stock option and RSU strategy, entity structuring, capital gains planning, 1031 exchanges, donor-advised funds, and more
Work alongside a seasoned senior CPA as the practice infrastructure comes together, contributing to workflows, technology, and service standards
Sit in on client meetings, help bring in new tax relationships, and build your own book of business over time
Research complex tax issues and develop well-reasoned, creative solutions — this firm expects you to find the answer, not accept no
Grow into a senior leadership role with real ownership potential for the right long-term fit
