Comcare is an established Mental Health and Housing provider assisting people with mental health or addiction issues to live well in the community. We provide a rich and diverse range of Mental Health Support Services, Housing and Housing Support Services.
In Dunedin we support people with complex mental health and/or alcohol and drug issues as well as those seeking to secure suitable housing. Our support is provided in people’s own homes and focuses on helping individual achieve their personal goals. We deliver a hybrid service, meaning we work across multiple areas of a person’s life simultaneously to provide holistic, tailored support.
About this role
The Support Worker - Te Whai Oranga role focuses on developing positive, creative solutions for people facing complex challenges that may impact their ability to live successfully in the community. You will support individuals to identify goals, build capability and navigate pathways towards greater independence.
This role involves working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including We support specialist mental health services, MSD, GPs, and community organisations such as Salvation Army, Presbyterian support, Oranga Tamariki and budgeting services.
A full-time, two permanent position (2 FTE) or one permanent part-time position (.5 FTE) with a scheduled 7 week roster plan.
We are open to discussing relocation support for successful applicant(s).
What you’ll be doing
- Maintaining accurate, up to date client records in our client management system
- Working with a caseload of approximately 3-4 clients per day (around 20 hours face-to-face contact per week)
- Support clients with appointments, entitlements and liaison with external stakeholders
- Participate in team meetings and trainings
- Participate in peer coaching and reflective practice.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A sound understanding of Mental Health and or addiction support
- A proactive, solution-focused “can-do" attitude
- Confidence to ask for support and work collaboratively
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Proficient is communicating/writing in English
- Knowledge of community resources and services, or the ability to quickly build this knowledge.
Applicants for this role would ideally have sound knowledge of the Mental Health/Social Services support systems. You will also have a cultural awareness, knowledge of, and demonstrable commitment to, the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Flexible, adaptable, and confident you will be able to make well considered decisions. You also understand the need for strong professional boundaries and a good work ethic.
It is desirable that you have a New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 4 - Mental Health and Addiction Support (or equivalent qualification) or are committed to studying towards one.
Experience in the mental health and disability sector would be an advantage.
Applicants must hold a current full, clean driver’s license.
