Description

Muna British Academy is seeking an outstanding Teacher of Humanities (Geography), commencing in the 2027/28 academic year, who can inspire curiosity about people, places and the forces shaping our world. This is an exciting opportunity to teach Geography and History across Key Stage 3, while contributing specialist expertise to the development of GCSE/IGCSE and future A-Level Geography provision as our secondary school expands.

We are looking for a passionate geographer who brings physical and human geography to life through compelling examples, geographical enquiry and purposeful fieldwork. You will develop students’ confidence in interpreting maps and data, evaluating evidence, and explaining the relationships between communities and environments. Through high expectations, skilful adaptation and engaging teaching, you will support every learner to think critically, consider different perspectives and communicate informed arguments.

Beyond the classroom, you will enrich students’ experiences through visits, investigations and projects connected to sustainability, global development and the UAE’s changing landscapes. Embodying our values of Ambition, Responsibility and Respect, you will encourage responsible citizenship and contribute to a collaborative Humanities department and a community in which character, wellbeing and achievement are equally valued.

  • Teach Geography as a specialist subject at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, preparing students for GCSE and A-Level Geography qualifications.
  • Deliver engaging and well-structured lessons that develop students’ geographical knowledge, enquiry skills, critical thinking and understanding of global issues.

  • Prepare students effectively for external qualifications, including (I)GCSE and A-Level Geography.
  • Develop students’ understanding of physical and human geography, environmental sustainability, global development and spatial thinking.
  • Promote geographical enquiry through investigation, research, data interpretation and, where appropriate, fieldwork activities.
  • Provide high-quality guidance and feedback during coursework and assessments to ensure students meet examination requirements.
  • Plan lessons and sequences of learning that meet the needs of all learners, ensuring appropriate challenge and support across the full ability range.
  • Use assessment effectively to monitor student progress, inform planning and support students in achieving their potential.
  • Develop students’ independence, resilience and analytical thinking through enquiry-based learning.
  • Create stimulating classroom environments and displays that support learning in Humanities and Geography.
  • Use a range of teaching strategies, including digital technology and blended learning approaches, to enhance student engagement and progress.
  • Support the needs of all learners, including POD (SEN), EAL and G&T students, through effective differentiation and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Contribute to the development of the Humanities curriculum and the continued growth of Geography at KS4 and KS5.

Assessment, Progress and Achievement

  • Monitor and track student progress using assessment data to inform teaching and identify students who require additional challenge or support.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback that supports students in improving their geographical knowledge, analytical skills and examination performance.
  • Prepare students effectively for internal and external assessments through structured revision and exam preparation.
  • Contribute to departmental moderation and standardisation processes to ensure accurate and consistent assessment.
  • Support students in developing the enquiry, evaluation and extended writing skills required for GCSE and A-Level Geography.

Behaviour Management and Student Wellbeing

  • Follow the school’s behaviour policy and maintain high expectations for student conduct and engagement.
  • Manage classes effectively using positive behaviour strategies that support a focused and productive learning environment.
  • Build positive relationships with students, encouraging respect, responsibility and independence.
  • Act as a positive role model and uphold the values and ethos of the school.
  • Support the pastoral development of students and contribute to the wider wellbeing and safeguarding of all learners.
