ROLE SUMMARY:

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and proactive Early Years Teaching Assistant to join our EL2 team, working with children aged 1-2. You will work closely with the class teacher to create a warm, safe and nurturing environment where our youngest learners feel secure and happy. Through play, songs, stories and hands-on exploration, you will help them build early communication skills, develop independence (including self-feeding and routines) and grow their natural curiosity. Patience, kindness and a genuine love of working with toddlers are essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support class teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive and child-centred play-based learning experiences.
  • Work with individuals and small groups through songs, stories, sensory play and simple activities to support early communication and development.
  • Help create and maintain a safe, stimulating, well-organised and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing and social development through gentle, nurturing approaches.
  • Support children with daily routines, including snack and mealtimes, nappy changing and toileting, rest time, and settling in.
  • Assist in observing, recording and sharing children’s progress with teaching staff.
  • Support children with additional needs where required.
  • Supervise children during play, outdoor time, mealtimes and school events, ensuring their safety at all times.
  • Assist with preparing learning materials, classroom displays and resources.
  • Contribute to classroom routines, transitions, and day-to-day organisation.
  • Uphold safeguarding, behaviour, and child protection policies at all times.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Relevant experience working with young children, ideally in a nursery, early years or school setting.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection and professional conduct expectations in schools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, colleagues and parents.
  • A warm, patient and proactive approach, with an understanding of how to support toddlers’ behaviour and engagement through gentle, consistent routines.
  • Flexibility and a collaborative mindset, with willingness to support across a range of classroom and school activities.
  • Ability to support learning effectively in both group and one-to-one settings, including positive behaviour guidance and classroom management.
  • Experience in an international or diverse school environment (desirable).
