The Faculty of Engineering is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support undergraduate engineering teaching, hands-on and project-based learning activities, student projects, and the day-to-day operation of teaching and prototyping facilities. The position calls for practical engineering skills, effective student support, and a responsible approach to the use and management of equipment and teaching spaces.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor's degree or above in Engineering, a STEM-related field, or a related discipline. They should have a good command of written and spoken English, good communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Applicants should also be self-motivated, well-organised, responsible, and demonstrate good hands-on engineering and problem-solving skills. Experience in university-level teaching support, engineering workshops, laboratories, makerspaces, student project supervision, or the operation and management of technical facilities would be an advantage.

Relevant hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas will be an advantage:

  • Mechanical design and prototyping (e.g. CAD, 3D modelling, 3D printing, laser cutting and digital fabrication)
  • Electronics and circuit applications (e.g. sensors, actuators, PCB and basic instrumentation)
  • Embedded systems and microcontroller programming (e.g. Raspberry Pi, ESP32 and Arduino)
  • Programming for engineering applications (e.g. Python and C/C++)
  • Robotics, automation, computer vision and control systems
  • Artificial intelligence, machine learning, large language models (LLMs), or related engineering applications
  • Internet of Things (IoT), wireless communication, data acquisition and smart systems
  • Operation and management of engineering laboratories, workshops, makerspaces or prototyping facilities

The appointee will assist in the preparation and delivery of undergraduate engineering courses, including workshops, practical sessions and project-based learning activities. He/She will provide technical guidance and consultation to students, support student project development, assist in preparing and testing teaching materials, equipment and prototype kits, and provide support during teaching sessions. He/She may also assist in providing feedback on student progress and supporting assessment-related activities.

The appointee will also support the day-to-day operation of teaching and prototyping facilities. Duties will include preparing teaching spaces and equipment for classes and student activities; supporting the operation, routine inspection and maintenance of engineering equipment and tools; providing guidance on the proper and safe use of equipment; maintaining equipment records, inventory, consumables and storage; supporting equipment booking and usage arrangements; troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues; and coordinating maintenance or servicing when required.

The appointee may also assist in organising student activities, demonstrations, exhibitions, visits and seminars, and perform other duties as assigned.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.

The University only accepts online application for the above post. Applicants should apply online and upload an up-to-date C.V. Review of applications will start as soon as possible and continue until December 31, 2026 or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
