Team Members are typically assigned to a primary department from the list above but are expected to assist in other departments as needed to promote teamwork, flexibility, and a supportive work environment.
Team Member job assignments include:
- Welcome customers as they enter the building and as you come into contact with them throughout the store.
- Provide outstanding customer service by:
- Listening to their needs and responding to their questions or concerns in a friendly, professional, and timely manner.
- Strive to create a positive experience by attentive, patient, and respectful, offering accurate information, and going above and beyond to meet customer expectations.
- Address issues promptly with support from a member of management to find effective solutions and ensure customers feel valued, appreciated, and satisfied with the service the receive.
- Stock and organize products by:
- Ensuring shelves and displays are consistently replenished, neatly arranged, and properly labeled.
- Monitor inventory levels, rotate products to maintain freshness and quality, and place items in their designated locations to make them easy for customers to find.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and well-organized sales floor, check for damaged or expired products, and communicate low-stock items to a member of management.
- Work efficiently to keep products readily available, improve the overall shopping experience, and maintain an attractive and organized store environment.
- Computer operations are used for:
- Processing customer transactions.
- Assist customers with their needs such as looking up products for availability for purchase.
- Customer Loyalty account setup.
- Additional Responsibilities (not all inclusive):
- General cleaning and upkeep of all areas of the store as assigned.
- Use clear, pleasant and professional methods of communication when answering phones, 2-way radio calls, making announcements over the PA system.
Scheduling Requirements:
- All associates are expected to conform to the scheduled work hours and shifts set by Store Management.
- Must be able to work weekends with a rotating schedule.
Employment Classification Considerations for Scheduling
- Full-Time employees are scheduled with 4 days on, 2 days off rotation, up to 40 hours per week (overtime offered when business needs arise).
- Part-Time employees are scheduled as needed up to 29 hours per week. Weekend and evening availability is preferred (hours are not guaranteed).
Physical Requirements:
- Must be capable of working on their feet for long periods of time, and capable of standing, walking, bending and/or kneeling, consistently throughout the workday.
- All associates should be capable of pushing, pulling and/or lifting up to 30 pounds without assistance consistently and sometimes 50 pounds throughout the workday.
Age Requirements:
- Must be at least 16 years of age to be employed with Big R Stores.
- Some positions require the applicant to be at least 18 or at least 21 years of age.

- 18 Years of Age: Forklift Certifications Requirement for Yard and Receiving positions
- 21 Years of Age: Must be able to pass a background check for Sporting Goods to handle and sell firearms
