About Omnifi

Omnifi is an outsourced finance operations company serving mid-market, multi-entity businesses in the US — accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, month-end close, general ledger, and compliance reporting, delivered through a dedicated India-based delivery team. We currently manage finance operations for clients across healthcare, non-profit, and services sectors, working inside stacks like Bill.com, QuickBooks, Paylocity, Procurify, and Athena Health.

We are now building the technology layer on top of that operating business: an AI-native platform where autonomous agents handle the invoice processing, reconciliation, and reporting work that our finance teams do manually today, with our finance operators moving into oversight and exception-handling roles rather than pure execution.

This is an early-stage build. There is no platform in production yet. You would be one of the first, if not the first, engineering hire — which means unusual ownership over architecture decisions, and also unusual ambiguity, a lean team, and a still-forming roadmap. We're looking for someone who wants that trade-off, not someone looking for a mature engineering org to slot into.

Role Overview

We're hiring a hands-on Tech Lead to architect and build our AI-enabled finance operations platform: full-stack engineering, cloud infrastructure, and AI agent orchestration, working directly with the founding team to turn manual finance workflows into automated, agent-driven ones.

The platform will include:

  • AI agents and automation workflows for finance processes (AP, AR, reconciliation, close, reporting)
  • Integrations with ERP and financial systems (Bill.com, QuickBooks, Procurify, Paylocity, and others)
  • Workflow orchestration and APIs
  • Cloud-native, scalable infrastructure
  • Secure multi-tenant SaaS architecture
  • A web application serving as the management cockpit and client engagement layer — for internal oversight, exception handling, and client-facing interaction and reporting
  • Data infrastructure to ingest and analyze clients' financial data

Note on scope: this is the first engineering hire on the platform. You will operate across all of the areas below in the build phase, and — critically — you will be responsible for defining what our next engineering hire should look like: what they should own, what skill gaps they should fill, and when we should bring them on. We are not handing you a pre-defined team structure; we're hiring someone senior enough to design it.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Own end-to-end technical architecture of the platform in its build phase
  • Set technology direction, coding standards, and review processes as the team grows
  • Translate finance-operations requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Define the profile, priorities, and timing for our next engineering hire based on what the build actually needs — you will scope this role, not just anticipate it

Cloud & Infrastructure

  • Design and manage infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, GKE, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Vertex AI, IAM, VPC)
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar)
  • Build out dev/staging/production environments with monitoring, logging, and alerting from day one

DevOps & CI/CD

  • Build CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar), automated testing, and rollback mechanisms
  • Establish secure secrets management and environment configuration practices

Full-Stack Application Development

  • Build backend services in Node.js and frontend applications in React/TypeScript
  • Design APIs and service-oriented architecture for internal tools and client-facing workflows

Database & Data Architecture

  • Design data models for operational workflows and AI agent memory/context
  • Work with PostgreSQL/MySQL, and Redis for caching where needed

AI & Agentic Systems

  • Design and build AI-agent workflows for finance processes: prompt engineering, tool use, memory, orchestration
  • Integrate LLMs into operational workflows with observability and guardrails
  • Work with RAG architectures and vector databases where relevant

APIs & Integrations

  • Build and maintain integrations with ERP and finance platforms (Bill.com, QuickBooks, Procurify, Paylocity, and similar)
  • Implement OAuth/SSO and secure data exchange patterns

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including time as a Tech Lead or Senior Full-Stack Engineer
  • Hands-on production experience with GCP (not just familiarity — you've actually run infrastructure that mattered)
  • Strong Node.js/React/TypeScript background
  • Real experience building AI-enabled applications or agentic workflows — not a side project, something that ran in production
  • Comfort operating with an unfinished roadmap, a two-person team, and decisions that haven't been made yet

Strong plus

  • Experience with fintech, ERP integrations, or finance/accounting workflows
  • Startup or early-stage company experience, ideally as an early technical hire
  • Experience with workflow orchestration platforms and event-driven architectures
  • Familiarity with SAP, Oracle, or Dynamics 365 ecosystems

Personal characteristics

  • Builder, not just an architect on paper — you'll be writing code, not only reviewing it
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; will tell us when a plan doesn't make sense rather than executing it anyway
  • Can operate independently for stretches without a large team around them
