Tech Lead/Manager, AI-Native Authoring
Summary
Staff software engineer on Snowflake's Snowsight team in Bellevue, WA, owning product areas end-to-end, leading large cross-team projects, and leveraging agentic AI across a full stack of Go, React, and Java. The role emphasizes technical leadership, mentoring, and shipping fast, scalable web experiences for data professionals.
At Snowflake, we are powering the era of the agentic enterprise. To usher in this new era, we seek AI-native thinkers across every function who are energized by the opportunity to reinvent how they work. You don’t just use tools; you possess an innate curiosity, treating AI as a high-trust collaborator that is core to how you solve problems and accelerate your impact. We look for low-ego individuals who thrive in dynamic and fast-moving environments and move with an experimental mindset — who rapidly test emerging capabilities to discover simpler, more powerful ways to deliver results. At Snowflake, your role isn't just to execute a function, but to help redefine the future of how work gets done.
Join the AI-Native Authoring team and help shape how data scientists, analysts, engineers, and AI developers build on Snowflake. From SQL to python, and from Workspaces to our VS Code extension, our team owns the highest impact workloads and surfaces across Snowflake. We even own Snowflake Notebooks end to end, including the notebook service backend, container runtimes, and interactive, Jupyter-based experience our customers work in every day.
Our team is at the center of delivering a profound AI and application-development platform, delivering secure, reliable, reproducible compute environments with a delightful and intuitive editing experience layered on top. These serve all of our customers, including our most critical security-sensitive customers running in regulated and air-gapped deployments.
If you're excited by deep backend systems and delivering polished customer-facing experiences across the full stack, we invite you to be part of our team's success story.
AS A TECH LEAD/MANAGER YOU WILL:
Own your team’s technical strategy and execution, driving projects from initial idea formulation and detailed system design to high-quality implementation and successful deployment.
Provide deep technical oversight by actively participating in design reviews, architecture discussions, and drilling into complex system implementations to ensure reliability and scalability.
Serve as an AI bar raiser by continuously honing your team’s craft and workflows, driving toward fully automated and self-improving solutions.
Serve as a key technical contributor and subject matter expert, setting the bar for engineering excellence and coding best practices within the team.
Mentor and coach engineers on complex technical challenges and career development, and grow a strong, diverse team through proactive hiring.
Define team plans and deliverables while remaining accountable for the platform's availability, maintainability, and performance.
Collaborate closely with the Product Management team to translate user needs and product requirements into clear technical roadmaps.
Lead the improvement of our engineering processes, tooling, and standards, focusing on efficiency and velocity.
Partner effectively with other engineering and cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration and influence the direction of the broader platform.
Build for scale, reliability, and high performance, and participate in the on-call rotation to keep a Tier-1 production service healthy.
Drive high-impact initiatives that span our product areas and full tech stack, including golang and Python on the backend and TypeScript/React on the frontend.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
9+ years of experience in designing and building large-scale systems in production and full-stack development.
2+ years of experience in managing and leading teams building lean mission-critical, highly concurrent, high-throughput, low-latency systems.
Strong written, verbal, and technical communication skills, with a proactive, transparent working style.
Extensive and strong development experience in cloud environments, such as AWS, Azure, and GCP, is a plus.
Strong hands-on skills. Can drill deep into the complex system design and implementation on a routine basis.
Deep understanding of modern web application architecture, good API design patterns, security, performance, and scale.
Experience with backend services and distributed systems; familiarity with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud infrastructure is a strong plus.
Experience building for regulated, compliance-driven, or air-gapped environments is a strong plus.
Knowledge of database internals and SQL is a plus.
Passionate about building the best customer-facing products.
BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related majors, or equivalent experience.
Snowflake is growing fast, and we’re scaling our team to help enable and accelerate our growth. We are looking for people who share our values, challenge ordinary thinking, and push the pace of innovation while building a future for themselves and Snowflake.
