Tech Lead .Net Developer / $175k + Benefits

Summary

Hands-on Tech Lead .NET Developer at an established SaaS company in Auckland, designing and building complex C#/.NET features while providing technical leadership and integrating AI-assisted development tools into the engineering workflow.

Salary: $165,000 – $175,000 per year

Build great software. Shape the technology. Embrace the next generation of engineering.

This is an opportunity for an experienced software engineer who wants more than simply writing tickets and closing features.

The role sits at the intersection of hands-on engineering, technical leadership and the rapidly evolving world of AI-assisted software development. You’ll remain close to the code while having genuine influence over how software is designed, built and delivered.

The organisation is significantly increasing its use of AI across the software engineering lifecycle, giving engineers the opportunity to work with modern AI tools and approaches that are changing the way development teams operate. You’ll be encouraged to use AI intelligently to accelerate development, explore solutions, improve code quality, automate repetitive work and ultimately build better software.

You don’t need to be an AI specialist. What matters is that you’re curious about AI, excited by its potential and keen to incorporate it into the way you engineer.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll take ownership of complex features from concept and technical design through to implementation, delivery and ongoing improvement within a modern C#/.NET environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and building complex, customer-facing functionality in C#/.NET

  • Making sound technical decisions and contributing to architecture and system design

  • Taking end-to-end ownership of features and solutions

  • Using AI-powered development tools to increase engineering productivity and effectiveness

  • Exploring new AI capabilities and identifying where they can genuinely improve the development process and product

  • Maintaining high standards around code quality, reliability, security and maintainability

  • Providing technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring and day-to-day collaboration

  • Helping shape engineering practices and the way the team approaches software development

  • Working closely with Product and Design to turn real customer needs into practical, scalable solutions

  • Challenging assumptions, identifying opportunities for improvement and taking ownership of problems

This is not a people-management role. It’s a role for someone who enjoys being a senior technical contributor and leading through knowledge, influence and example.

AI is becoming part of how the team engineers

The organisation is making a significant investment in AI and sees it as an important part of the future of software development.

For the right engineer, this means the opportunity to be part of that journey rather than simply watching it happen.

You’ll have the freedom to experiment with AI-enabled development approaches, learn new tools and help establish how AI can be used effectively within a professional engineering environment.

Whether you’re already using tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude or other AI coding assistants, or you’re simply an experienced engineer who is excited about where AI is taking software development, this is an opportunity to build that capability further.

Strong engineering fundamentals still matter—but the way those fundamentals are applied is changing.

What the role offers

  • A senior, hands-on technical role where you stay close to the code

  • Genuine influence over architecture, engineering practices and technical direction

  • The opportunity to help shape how AI is incorporated into modern software engineering

  • Exposure to evolving AI tools and development practices

  • End-to-end ownership of complex, customer-facing features

  • The opportunity to mentor and influence other engineers without becoming a people manager

  • A collaborative environment where engineers are encouraged to challenge ideas and propose better solutions

  • The stability of an established SaaS business combined with a willingness to embrace new technology

  • A culture that values quality, sustainability and long-term engineering excellence rather than simply shipping faster

What they’re looking for

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Strong commercial experience building and maintaining production systems using C#/.NET

  • A track record of taking ownership of complex features, systems or technical problems

  • Experience contributing to system design, architecture or technical direction

  • The ability to provide technical leadership through influence rather than authority

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and a pragmatic approach to solving problems

  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to mentor and support other engineers

  • A genuine interest in AI and its impact on software engineering

  • Curiosity and a willingness to experiment with new tools and approaches

  • A commitment to continuous technical and professional improvement

You do not need to be an AI engineer to be successful in this role. What’s important is having the engineering capability and curiosity to embrace AI and help determine how it can be used effectively.

The organisation

The organisation is a well-established SaaS business operating across multiple regions, delivering software used every day by a large and diverse customer base.

Product development is delivered through small, autonomous teams with a strong focus on reliability, maintainability and long-term customer value.

At the same time, the business is actively evolving its technology and engineering practices—including a much greater adoption of AI—creating an environment where experienced engineers can have a meaningful say in what the future of software development looks like.

Working arrangements & benefits

The role offers a hybrid working model, flexible hours and a comprehensive benefits package designed to support work–life balance, wellbeing and long-term career development.

Candidates must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.

If you’re a strong C#/.NET engineer who enjoys solving difficult problems, wants genuine technical influence and is excited about how AI is changing the way software is built, this could be an excellent next step.
