Tech Lead

You will set the technical direction and architecture for fraud prevention and risk systems. You will design scalable, resilient services for real-time transaction risk scoring, rule engines, and decision workflows. You will lead engineering execution, mentor engineers, collaborate with product, data science, risk, compliance, and operations stakeholders, and act as an escalation point for complex fraud incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical vision and architecture of the anti-fraud platform and services.
  • Design scalable, resilient systems for real-time transaction risk scoring, rule engines, and decision workflows.
  • Lead architectural decisions for anti-fraud system integrations, internal fraud engines, and third-party providers.
  • Ensure performance, reliability, security, and compliance requirements are met.
  • Translate fraud and risk requirements into technical solutions.
  • Partner on transaction monitoring, chargeback reduction, AML and KYC-adjacent workflows, and payment scheme requirements.
  • Evaluate fraud strategies for card-not-present transactions, alternative payment methods, and gaming fraud vectors.
  • Lead engineers and drive code quality, observability, secure development, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
  • Balance speed, risk, and quality.
  • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for complex fraud-related incidents.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant fintech or payments experience.
  • Experience designing or leading anti-fraud systems, including rule engines, risk-scoring pipelines, or decision-orchestration systems.
  • Strong backend engineering skills in Java, Kotlin, Go, or similar technologies.
  • Experience building high-volume, low-latency distributed systems.
  • Understanding of event-driven architecture, APIs, integrations, and data stores for real-time decisioning.
  • Hands-on fraud prevention experience in payment processing, digital commerce or marketplaces, and gaming or virtual goods is a strong plus.
  • Understanding of fraud patterns, abuse vectors, and mitigation techniques.
  • Familiarity with chargebacks, dispute flows, 3DS, risk exemptions, payment scheme rules, and external fraud vendors.
  • Ability to lead technically without relying solely on formal authority.
  • Strong decision-making and communication skills for high-risk domains.
