Tech Solutions Engineer

Summary

A developer-focused role bridging business needs and tech solutions, improving e-commerce systems like ERP, WMS, APIs, and integrations while exploring automation and AI.

Do you like to solve problems?

Do you see something inefficient and immediately start thinking about how it could work better?

Do you enjoy understanding how systems work, finding opportunities to improve them and then building a better solution?

If you’re a developer who wants to do more than just work through a list of tickets, this could be a very interesting role.

We’re looking for a Tech Solutions Engineer with strong technical ability, loads of curiosity and the energy to get involved across the business.

You don’t need to have done everything before.

You do need to be technically strong, hungry to learn and excited by the idea of using technology to solve real problems.

What makes this role interesting

At MyRunway, technology sits at the centre of the business.

Our systems connect our website, ERP, warehouse management system, inventory, buying, pricing, customer experience, payments, logistics and internal operations.

That means the problems are rarely boring.

You could spend one day improving how thousands of products flow through our systems and the next helping redesign something that happens on the warehouse floor.

You’ll get exposure to how an entire e-commerce business works, not just one piece of software.

What you’ll do

You’ll work closely with our development team and teams across the business to understand problems and help build better solutions.

You’ll:

  • Understand how different parts of the business work and where technology can improve them.

  • Turn business problems into clear technical requirements.

  • Work with developers on solution design, architecture and delivery.

  • Get involved in prioritising what gets built and why.

  • Work across our e-commerce platform, ERP, WMS, APIs, integrations and internal systems.

  • Help improve existing systems and build new ones.

  • Find opportunities for automation and smarter tooling.

  • Explore practical ways AI can improve both our systems and the way we develop software.

  • Investigate technical issues and help work out what is really causing them.

  • Challenge unnecessary complexity and look for simpler solutions.

  • Take increasing ownership as your experience grows.

What we’re looking for

We care more about your ability and attitude than how impressive your job title has been.

You’ll likely have:

  • A solid software development background.

  • Experience building and maintaining production systems.

  • Good understanding of databases, APIs, integrations and software architecture.

  • Strong logical and problem-solving ability.

  • An interest in how businesses and operational systems work.

  • The ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

  • Curiosity and a willingness to ask lots of questions.

  • An interest in AI, automation and emerging development tools.

  • High energy and a strong desire to learn quickly.

  • The confidence to get involved rather than waiting to be told what to do.

The Hard Truth: Not For Everyone

  • You won’t just be given tickets.
We expect you to understand why something needs to be built and whether there is a better solution.

  • You’ll need to get involved.
Sometimes understanding a problem means leaving your desk and seeing what is actually happening in the business.

  • You’ll be challenged.
You’ll work across systems and business areas you may not have seen before. That’s part of the opportunity.

  • You need to be technical.
You’ll be working closely with developers and getting involved in architecture and technical decisions.

  • You need energy.
This will suit someone who wants responsibility, exposure and growth, not someone looking for a comfortable lane.

Why this could be a great role

You’ll get exposure that would normally take years to build.

You’ll learn how technology, operations and commercial decisions connect across an entire e-commerce business.

You’ll work on real systems, real problems and solutions that people use every day.

And as you grow, so will the amount of responsibility you can take on.

If you’re technically strong, naturally curious and want to accelerate your development, we’d love to meet you.

MyRunway is committed to transformation and redressing of past inequalities. Our employment equity goals will be taken into account in our selection process.
