Technical Alignment Manager
Description
Help clients prevent avoidable disruption and make confident technology decisions. As a Technical Alignment Manager at Modern IT, you will get to know assigned client environments, review them against documented standards, and turn findings into clear recommendations and accountable follow-through.
Based in La Verne, CA, this full-time, on-site role includes client visits, generally within 30 miles of the office, and 8am–5pm Pacific hours. You report to the Technology Alignment Team Lead and participate in the weekend emergency on-call rotation.
About Modern IT
Modern IT helps people and businesses move forward with confidence. We partner with business leaders and internal IT teams to simplify technology, strengthen security, and connect IT decisions to business priorities. Our focused Microsoft approach brings tools and processes together so teams can work with greater clarity. We ask thoughtful questions, share what we learn, and build trust through clear communication and reliable follow-through.
What you will own
Scheduled technology reviews. Inspect networks, servers, endpoints, Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, and security and recovery controls against approved standards. Record the evidence, the gaps, and anything you could not verify. Complete scheduled scorecards and applicable Unique Client Checklists for systems specific to each client.
A prepared, purposeful service day. Confirm priorities and unfinished actions with your team lead and virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) before the visit. Start with a client check-in and physical walkthrough, complete the planned reviews, and finish with a concise written deliverable and client debrief covering findings, completed work, owners, and next steps.
Findings that lead to action. Explain the business impact and priority of each material gap. Complete remediation within your assigned scope and route other work to Service Desk, Centralized Services, or Projects with evidence and a clear handoff. Escalate urgent risks promptly and verify follow-through; a completed review does not mean every finding is resolved.
Documentation people can use. Maintain accurate client configuration records, diagrams, checklists, and standard operating procedures in IT Glue and SharePoint. Turn recurring support questions and undocumented workarounds into instructions another engineer can follow.
Client trust and continuous improvement. Explain technical findings in plain business language, help clients understand the value of the visit, and bring evidence-backed recommendations to the vCIO for technology planning and business reviews. Contribute improvements to the standards library and work with colleagues to reduce recurring incidents.
What success looks like
Assigned reviews and scorecards are completed on schedule with supporting evidence. Client documentation stays current. Findings have a priority, an owner, and a tracked next step, and clients understand what was accomplished and what remains open.
Scheduled service days target at least 90% proactive work. Record proactive and reactive time accurately, arrange warm handoffs for support requests, and flag interruptions or capacity constraints early. Work with the wider delivery team to reduce recurring tickets per endpoint and improve resolution times through better alignment and documentation.
Who thrives in this role
You enjoy methodical investigation, regular client contact, and finishing the documentation as much as solving the technical problem. You can explain why a standard matters, distinguish verified facts from assumptions, and stay with an issue through the handoff. Experience as a systems or network administrator, MSP engineer, or technical account engineer can be relevant when it includes hands-on standards reviews and proactive improvements.
Requirements
What you bring
5+ years of hands-on infrastructure experience in an MSP or equivalent environment, working with networks, servers, endpoints, remote monitoring and management, and security tools. You can investigate configurations and explain what the evidence shows.
Direct experience reviewing a real environment against a defined standard, documenting a gap and its business risk, and recommending an action. Be ready to explain work you personally performed and how you followed up. An equivalent proactive review counts even if your previous title was not Technical Alignment Manager. Use anonymized examples; do not share client names, credentials, or confidential documents.
Strong technical writing and organization: accurate configuration records, useful SOPs, repeatable checklists, and complete ticket handoffs. You can prioritize risks, manage a planned service day, and distinguish a verified result from an assumption.
Professional client communication and the ability to lead a check-in or debrief in plain language. You can reliably commute to La Verne, travel to client sites, work 8am–5pm Pacific hours, and participate in the rotating weekend emergency on-call schedule.
Helpful experience
Supporting multiple client environments; Microsoft 365 and Azure administration; technology benchmarking or lifecycle platforms such as myITprocess, vCIO Toolbox, or Lifecycle Insights; and compliance or audit work. A relevant degree or equivalent experience is welcome.
Preferred Microsoft certifications
Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate (MD-102) and Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate (SC-300) are especially relevant to our endpoint, Intune, identity, and access reviews. Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) is valuable for reviewing Azure infrastructure.
Microsoft Certified: Information Security Administrator Associate (SC-401) is an additional strength for Microsoft Purview, data protection, and compliance reviews. These certifications are preferred, not required, and we do not expect you to hold all of them. Equivalent hands-on capability matters, and our hiring process asks you to demonstrate how you apply it.
Tools and AI
You will work with the ConnectWise platform, a technology benchmarking platform, IT Glue, SharePoint, Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft 365. Modern IT is an AI-first company: use Microsoft 365 Copilot to draft documentation, summarize findings, and prepare client deliverables, then verify the output against source evidence before it is used. You will develop Copilot Studio agent and automation skills after joining; prior agent-building experience is not required.
Benefits
We’re targeting an annual base salary of approximately $100,000 to $125,000, with the final offer reflecting your experience, technical skills, and qualifications. You’ll also be eligible to participate in Modern IT’s profit-sharing plan, subject to the plan’s terms.
Our benefits package supports your wellbeing, financial security, and work–life balance.

- In 75 words or fewer, summarize your hands-on infrastructure experience in an MSP or equivalent environment: total years, your most recent role, and the networks, servers, endpoints or Microsoft cloud environments you personally supported.
